Has anyone ever bought a tractor like this from a state sale for surplus? Looks like a pretty good deal on the tractor?

www.asset-auctions.com under state of Tennessee

It closes tomorrow.

Thanks,

Tau

It is only 2700 dollars right now. Even ifyou had to spend another 1500 in parts to fix it. You would still come out ahead

Haven't ever done a tractor but years ago my dad got a 1965 Ford 1 ton truck with factory dump bed for around $1500, has less then 82,00 mile on it even today but has no brakes and a lot of other problems now but still ok on the farm. Was owned by the conservation dept here in MO

Tractors, trucks, cars, backhoes, etc, I've bought about everything that way. I wont buy at a farm consignement auction since thats where people go to get rid of junk with hidden problems. Farm estate sales are ok but the government surplus, especially state and local are some of the best.

At those you are getting fleet maintained stuff with a smaller crowd. The pros to buying municipal at least here is it has had proper maint done and no 'farmer fixes'. All OEM parts. The mechanics are paid by the hour and one of the few things you can get fired for from the government is not following procedure. Doesnt matter what it is. So stuff is fixed right with OEM parts.

The only bad surprise I've ever had was a leaking cylinder on a backhoe attachment for a skidloader.

Hayman, I know you are a ways over from me but I just want to give you a heads up to never come down to a city auction in city I work for. I work with better stuff on the farm that I have picked up at consignment sales than I have to work with at work. Last time I fussed about the city's truck make'n funny noise when when I drove it over 45 mph I was told to keep it under 40, a trany wasn't in the budget.

There is a guy around here that makes pretty good money picking up state tractors and painting them for resale. A ford 4630 is worth a good bit more if it ain't yellow. A buddy of mine bought a 4630 a few years ago and had it for a while before he noticed the front tires were solid, then he scratched it on a tree limb and there was yellow under the blue. He has had it for a good while now and it's been a great tractor.
