After reading up on knifes today I found a story about how Ulster Knife Company, Imperial Knife Company and Schrade all joined together. They were incorporated in 1947, and was one of the biggest cutlery concerns in the US. Thats too bad there gone to china,... Dad Said his father worked for Walden knife company, then they went out of business. This was when he was 12 or 13 and still in school, he was born in 1914. Any way pretty neat history, just to bad ist all gone. Hope you liked being a part of it, working for the Ellenville company.

What hasn't moved to China, John ? Lots of people asleep at the wheel to have let that happen. Its those manufacturing companies that produced so much wealth that made this country the leading economy of the world for so many ages. Obviously many people don't understand what wealth creation means, why it is so important or how it works or it would not have been let happen.A service based economy will eventually burn itself out as it is not sustainable.Sorry for the rant.Have a Happy New Year, my friend.bob

p.s. I am a Case knife fan myself. Probably since it was what Dad always carried.Got a new one for Christmas.

I have some nice knives. K-Bar, Boker "Tree Brand" and a Case. I carry a Schrade and also own a Remington ( Camillus?) but if I only want to cut something I use a Gerber. It is ugly and looks like it is made of plastic like a Glock pistol but it is the SHARPEST knife I own.

Yep your right. I have a Case knife also, its a Case XX U.S.A. with 6 dots, and # 6231 1/2 I think its from 1974, not worth much but I like it.J

As I've mentioned before, in 1958, there was a major confrontation between Nationalist China on Taiwan and Red China on the mainland over the ownership and occupation of the Quemoy and Matsu Islands in the Taiwan Strait. (I was there.)

On August 23, 1958, Red China began saturation shelling and bombing of the Quemoys and Matsus. Since then, the Matsus have become noted for producing fine cutlery. I understand their raw material is still the remains of all the bombs and shells the Reds threw at them.
