Best wood sealer for a trailer bed

I'm having my trailer rebuilt almost from the ground up, and will be putting down 1.25" ash for the bed. I don't want to put used oil on it because of the mess and look. What else do you think would help preserve it well?

Thanks!

Copper napthanate couple of oz, a cup of boiled linseed oil, shaved paraffin all melted into a gallon of mineral spirits. I used this stuff on pine and it was on a dock and it lasted over 15 years.
You'd do just as well with boiled linseed oil mixed with mineral spirits. The mineral spirits are just a carrying agent to soak the linseed oil into the wood...then it all dries out. Copper napthanate is a spore killer...you'll have problem getting it. The shaved paraffin is tough to put into suspension as it wants to a liquid first but tends to solidify right as soon as it hits the mineral spirits.

bolied linseed oil. Now if I could just find a source of several gallons, cheap, I have three hay wagons neding it!

My father in law uses creosote paint or something, on his hay wagon decks. He claims it works really good. I guess you cant get it anymore, he has a hoard from 30 years ago......

I coated my trailer deck boards with preservative then painted it with primer the deck paint.Looks real sharp and should stand up for many years.

Treat the bottom of the boards before you put them down.I think Thompsons water seal has some parafine in it.White oak would be a far better choice of woods.I use treated wood on trailer floor repairs.

I use Thompson's. It needs a recoat about every other year and I can get about fifteen years out of a deck.

Like it or not, the best preservative you can use is a abundant slopping of used motor oil. Repeat yearly.

You didn't say, is it a work or show trailer. For work - Boiled Linseed oil and oil mixed with mineral spirits.
For show I would sand it and then use Polly urethane.

I haven't tried it but have heard anti freeze works good. A guy I know had a trailer built for him and the guy that did it used anti freeze. That floors been on there 5 years maybe and looks good but don't know for how long. How long should a trailer floor last?
