Dear lads to start off with I hope you all had a merry charismas and are having a nice new year’s day. I have spend the day trying to start my 1070 with no luck it cranks so slow like the batteries are dead but then are new, also boosting does not help at the batteries or the starter. Lastly the starter in only about 1 month old. The case 1070 are 12volt not 24 right. Also it has been plug in for hours. Matt

Is your block heater working? Can you feel any heat around it? I have a 4960 deere that has this same type of deal going on. The block heater works, but not as warm as it should, and the batteries on that are new as well. Good luck and Happy New Years to you as well.

Terminals and all the connections clean? I thought the starter was going bad on my Oliver a few weeks ag. Just some old corrosion on the stud on the back side of the solenoid.

What is the cranking amps of the batteries? What is the size of the cables. How old are the batteries and has the specific gravity been checked? Was the starter a rebuild or new replacement? In general battery cables with repair ends are a tragedy on those big diesels. Does the block feel warm in the area surounding the block heater? If the batteries are adequate; I always put 1000 amp batteries in any diesel, and the cables are in excellent condition suspect the starter. mEl

The block heather is working well, the oil was just changed 15w 40, the cables are size 3 but they have some corrosion. My booster cables are size 1, one battery is 900 cold cranking amps and it is only two weeks old, the other is 700 cold cranking amps and it is old, the starter is a rebuild. matt

Drove one a long time ago but I thought they started on 24 volts , unhook cables and charge each battery seperate .

not familiar with those tractors does it have a shut off for the hydraulics? if not make sure the 3 pth is down cold engine cold oil cold hydraulics that tiny starter has to turn all those things

You say one battery is old. You might want to have it tested. If it's weak, well you know.
Something to think about. I have a D17 diesel Allis. Originally it had 2 6V batteries in series. It now has 2 1000 CCA 12V batteries in parallel. The coldest it has been when I have tried to start it is 0 degrees F. It will start easily with those 2 batteries and the slightest whiff of ether.
Look your cables over carefully. You could have a cable that may look fine, but closer inspection may reveal a bad connection, etc.

Not familiar with that tractor, but it sounds like everything is good, batteries, block heater etc.

Sounds like maybe the fuel is gelled up? If this is a diesel that could be the problem.

If one battery was bad, you should have replaced both of them at the same time. I know it costs more money and such, but that is how you get the best results.

Do you have a forced air heater? Some people call them "torpedo heaters". Put a tarp over the engine and put that heater under the tarp. Be carefull not to have the heater too close or the tarp on the heater. This will heat up the fuel and the oil. Maybe you can get her started after this.
