I'm 44 and just heard (I guess) where the term "once in a blue moon" comes from.

Tomorrow night will be that "blue moon".
Second full moon in a calendar month supposed to happen about once every 2 years.
Nutter piece of trivia, a full moon on New Years Eve happens every 19 years (?)

Better take a nap now, that's a lot of learnin for one day.

The last time a blue moon coincided with New Year's Eve was in 2009. The next opportunity will come in 2028.
Just thought I'd let you mull over that one, LOL.

Some of us believe that the real blue moon happened in late Nov of this year because it is the third full moon of a season; and those that think it is new years eve are believing an interpretation error made back in 1946.

So since we do not agree on that point we may not agree on where the term "once in a blue moon" comes from.

Blue Moon falls every two and half years as for New Years eve, it comes every 19 years. WGN TV Skilling weather guy. Side note it was his brother who took the hit for Enron. The guy who actually got it going died of the big H.

I remember looking thru a junkyard one time, I came across a robin's egg blue 1960 Dorf convertable, it had "blue moon" painted on the lower rear of the front fenders. I've heard of guys saying "once in a blue moon"............

In the mid-south,we used to say "once in a coon's age" then someone said we weren't sposed to say that anymore,so I guess now that we know bout the blue moon,we can use that term instead.
HMmmm , It's got so latly momma only gets frisky bout once in a blue moon.

A blue moon is the second full moon appearing in the same month.[the first one is white, the second one blue..lol] There will be no full moon in February but 2 in March.
