Hey folks,
I'd like to get this onto a receiver hitch cover. Wondering what would look better.
A bead welded on the surface, or routed out and painted (on aluminum?)
? Suggestions appreciated. If anyone could make me something nice, please email me with what you would need to make it happen. I also have the design as a .pdf

Thanks, Dave

Consider having the design plasma cut from steel and welded onto your plug. It should give you the crisp look of a machined part, for less expense.

(quoted from post at 06:41:45 12/30/09) do you still brand ?

Yes, just started year before last. Not that we have so many animals or so many places for them to go, more as an uninterpretable marking on pedigrees. Our horses don't have a lot of markings that would destinguish them if you didn't know. Anything to deter thieves.

its common to see brands on reciever hitches out here, usually there used as a plug when not pulling a trailer several ways to go, one is to weld a bolt head to the back of the brand then mount it on a piece of square tubing then use the horizonal hitch pin to keep it in place, ive also seen them welded right to the tube on the hitch itself[ the truck end] that way the brand is always there and they retain full use of the hitch for that, just get somebody who can run a good weld bead, [ not one that looks like chicken poop] the weld, to a person standing behind the vehicle or following behind you the weld will be virtually invisible as the focus will be on the brand itself, not the weld

I am in the printing business that could be photo engraved on 1/4 magnesium (or brass expensive and you can attach it to any receiver plug you want you can paint the back ground and wipe off the front to have the design show through it sticks up about 1/6 to 3/32 you only need a black znd white drawing to do that

I think if you put it in a hollow mount and built it out of 1/4" or 3/8" strap iron you could light it up from inside w/a red glow. I think I'd want it about 6" wide tho. Unless you got steadier hands than I have that is. I like to use an old male end in the box to keep dirt out anyhow and you could set it up as a third brake light or tail light.

How about a nice 4" square piece of oak, ash, walnut, whatever- heat up the iron and brand the wood, varnish it up, then mount to a tube to go in the receiver.

I think it would look good plasma cut from brass and fastened onto a piece of polished stainless steel for a background with clear coat sprayed over it for protection.

My uncle owns a metal fab shop, i can give you their info www.myrmcorp.com and you can contact hugo about getting it cut. They have a waterjet so they can just put the file in and have it cut. I dont know about getting it shipped though, that may get pricey. What i have done before it buy the reciever tail lights (red lightup square) and then cut the image out of black vinyl (the stuff they use to make car decals and stickers out of) and then just stuck it over the light. It came out looking very nice and it lit up every time you stepped on the brakes.

I like the ideas. Sometimes the simple stuff just doesn't cross the mind. I really like the wood idea, but the brass on stainless and the light idea is worth thinking about. As far as shipping, my address is in NY.

Here's how I'd fab it...Water jet the letter design out of 3/4 aluminum. Drill and tap the back side and secure to a 1/2 aluminum plate with 10-32 SST cap screws from behind. TIG the plate to a 2" Sq aluminum tube and have the whole thing buffed and clear anodized.
