They're building a new coal fired power plant in our area. This is one part of several for the first generator. Weight is 422 ton. Take 2 days to move it 14 miles. Driver ride in front controling it with a remote control

I think with all the tires the load is spread out pretty good to avoid damaging the road. They move big vessels, that are even heavier, on similar trailers up here all the time. Dave

A big transformer went through our town two years ago on a similar rig with a road tractor front and rear. The tractors had planetaries at the end of each axle. They put down something like bailey bridges over one small bridge to spread the load.

Theres a lot of axles and tires there , and I would have to see the Equipment Engineerimg Close Up . no doubt the weight transfers equally to all tires .. when they brought in the heavy pressses at Lobdeel-emory those trolleys could distribute weight the way it is built,,..

When building an ill-fated nuclear power plant in Satsop, Washington about 30 years ago, they needed to get some zillion pound generators to the site- rather than beef up the railroad, they wanted to build a super road through the farmland, including that of Alice "Granny" Mock, an 80 year old woman who milked Jerseys, had had about 40 foster kids, everybody loved her, you get the picture. It would have completely ruined her farm.

She ended up with a petition from nearly a thousand local folks who pledged to come lay in front of the bulldozers if they tried to come on her property (me included). Sheriff's office took the official position that they would only "preserve the peace", not help clear out the folks. Their "private" position was that the Sheriff was afraid he couldn't field much of a force, as most of the deputies had signed up for the protest.

Wisely, they decided to beef up the railroad instead. Don't know if they ever actually delivered the goods, because the project ran out of money and was abandoned.

I agree Lefty,

Wish I could have seen Some of the wind turbines being delivered down around Delevan/Hopedale,Emden, Illinois.
Looked at them on the ground and they are BBIIGG!

Never saw the trucks but the cranes are bigger than any thing used around here

If it's anything like KY the extra taxes the coal trucks hauling into the plant will be way more than enough to pay for any pot holes caused by this rig.

Cant see the rear end of the truck but ones I have been up close to had one and/or 2 operators riding in control stations at the rear. The operators could load or unload individual wheels thru hyd cyls. to spread load as required.

The load is exactly the same on each wheel and every wheel steers. That's the way it works. We paid 18 million for one of those and that was several years ago. Probably made in Germany.

Yep...see them every day. I design 30 to 100MW gas turbine generators.
Surprised about the coal fired unit. Packaged GT units are cheaper, cleaner and can get on line much faster.
Must be near a river somewhere.

You are near Lively Grove? I am just a half hour North of there. For some reason I thought you were from Northern IL.

Items like this should be going by rail. Railroads are made for carrying large cargo safely away from highways and other transportation. And if this country hadn't gone hog-wild back in the 60's and 70's ripping up track, large cargo transport would be a whole lot easier.
