o/t 12 volt winch

It might run, very slowly. Chances are that if you try to load it up at all you'll burn the motor up due to the excessive current it'll try to draw. Sam

Well it may be "possible" (never say never lol one might modify it etc) HOWEVER its not a good thing, it likely wont perform well if at all dependant upon the load, and could even damage the unit.

YOU NEED TO USE A 12 VOLT BATTERY

Well that is a yes no or maybe thing. Ya it would most like turn. No it would not have enough power to do any thing and maybe you would burn up the motor. It would be sort of like taking a 6 volt battery and trying to start you car or truck with it it might do so but not likely that it would in fact start and if it has a computer who knows what the computer would do

Under no load, it will turn half as fast on six volts as it would on twelve. Under a stall (zero rpm) condition, the torque will be half as much. That's all theoretical, of course. In practice the short answer is "no".

The maximum current a 12 volt DC motor will draw from a 6 volt battery will be half what it would draw from a 12 volt battery. Low voltage means high current only on an AC induction motor, no on a DC motor.
