OT Expired drivers license

I have been disabled since 1993. My legs keep getting weaker & I can barely walk with a cane anymore. I still drive a little locally but not to a large city. My license will expire in November,2010. I don't think I will renew it & quit driving. Will there be a problem with using an expired license for identifacation?

Can you renew it on line? My 89 year old Dad did that last year because he knew he could not pass the eye test. since then he did have Lazar treatment and can see much better.

Any expired document is unusable as an ID. My wife's expired while we were travelling and I thought I'd never get her on the plane. Keeping in mind of course with the TSA employees' there is an empty Burger King somewhere.

I'd certainly renew your DL, whether you drive or not is up to you.

I wouldn't give up that driver's license unless forced to do so. Easy to give up and nearly impossable to get back.

Here in Oregon, an expired license is useless as ID. I would wait till it was time to renew and go get a ID card at the DMV. It will cost a couple bucks more than I would like to pay, but it sure worked for my late wife.

I would try and renew it ---you never know about emergencies. Expired its not only worthless, it could get you into trouble in some situations.

Otherwise most any state issues ID cards

In Arkansas they will issue you an Id card. It looks similar to a drivers license but can be used as a legal photo Id.

These days, you need a valid ID to do almost anything. An expired driver's license is not a valid ID. If you don't want to renew it, get either a state ID card or a passport.

Washington is the same as other states mentioned- expired driver's license is not valid for ID- which is strange, isn't it? Everything about the identification portion is exactly the same, just some irrelevant date has passed. Guess the guvment doesn't want anyone getting a "free ride"- need those fees coming in, doncha know. . .

Get a state ID card, if you're giving up your license.

in ohio they will accept it as a ID as long as your SS # is on your drivers Lic. Now, on the federal side( Airplane boarding) they will not
I would sujjest renewing them and restrain from driving if you feel unsafe to do so!

If i recall right, you are from MN.

There is an ID card that is available for less than a license, which contains the same info as a license but you cannot drive with the ID card.
