Speedi Sleeve Question

Where is the best place to get speedi sleeves for shafts with a groove worn by a seal? I have four axles from a small Bobcat that could use the treatment, but the bearing store that sold me the new seals quoted $50 a sleeve. For what they are, that seems pretty high. Any other sources?

It"s a 2 inch shaft on the axle that needs the sleeve. I had thought of using JB Weld, but want to do the best repair the first time.

I know the place that you mean. Somebody posted the website for it one time. I thought I saved it in favorites, but can't find it now. Hope somebody posts it again.

Sometimes if its not a real deep groove you can take emery tape and polish it off the shaft,or at least get it down to where its not as bad, then when you drive the seal on maybe dont drive it quite all the way so the lip rides in another place.Either way beats spending 50 dollars for a speedi sleeve, but if none of that works 50 dollars is cheaper than a new shaft.

My JD 60 only has about 15 psi and I have a new engine in it. I was worried like you then someone told me the 10psi rule, which I guess holds true for all motors.

Speedi Sleeve is CR brand (I think). Any bearing house (motion, kaman industrial) would be able to get them. Also I think Baum Hydraulics has them. Any way you go though speedi sleeves are kinda expensive. Worth the money though. Most seals only have an allowance for a few thousands runout or diameter tolerance on the shaft so the build up with epoxy would have to be just about perfect to keep it from leaking.

If you remove the bearings from the axle shafts they will have to be warmed up in oil before reinstalling or installing new bearings with the seal. The bobcat dealer close to us uses an old fri daddy cooker filled with hyd oil and they heat the bearings up with that and they slide right on the shaft.

I have used the Micro Sleeve brand. microsleeve.com or 1-800-521-2936.Also there is a company called Silver Seal that sells them and machine shop tooling for engine work. silverseal.com .Hope this helps and Happy Holidays

I've found a website (kscdirect) for Kelly Supply, which sells both CR and National speedi-sleeves a lot cheaper than seen elsewhere. Anyone ever order from them before?
