Yep,
Learned 2 things today!
First was don't put down crushed stone on your drive after Labor day cause it might rain a lot and when it snows, you just drag it off.

See number 2 below!

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!
Jim

That happens to any driveway, whether recently graded or not. What you do is leave a coating of snow on the driveway itself so as to avoid taking stones with it. Skid shoes or skates or even caster wheels on your loader or rear blade are perfect methods of leaving stone on the ground.

i always turn my back blade around backwards so its not digging in the ground just kinda skims the snow off then ol mister sunshine takes care of the rest. RICK

Did the backblade option BUUUUTTT with the 2 inchces of rain and quick 5 inches of snow was has to adjust!

Sorry for the John T

A little practice and you will get by. Just put some guides on the blade I have some on the front blade they work well. You will be avle to pull the rock back when the snow melts.

I try not to scrape or plow driveways until after we"ve had a couple snows, and have a snow/ice pack on the ground. Got caught a little in trouble this time, as we had a warmup and about an inch of rain on this snow pack. Driveways are a mess. Wonder why everything in our driveway has 4wd?

Oh good golly Bob, pretty much everywhere, making money and trying not to spend it!

Other than that, life is still rolling along just fine.

Hope all is well with you

I wish you could explain that to the county road people ...
Ever year in the FALL they come around and put gravel down alone side the highway ... then the FIRST snow they blade it in the ditch ... my case ON my front yard ... so ever spring .. I have to rake and pick up gravel before , I can mow ... yes if I pick it up it's MINE .. put on my driveway ... usully get 3-4 wheel-barrows ..

I get rock the hard way ...

I've seen landscapers using those power sweepers in lawns and they look like they move gravel quite efficiently.

I was at the local tractor dealer who sells Stihl equipment, and saw they have those power heads that you can interchange the working ends for trimmers, tillers, sweepers, etc. Looks like it might be nice once I can spring for some decent lawn equipment.

I learned that the hard way also! Quite a change in the weather over the past couple of days. 3" of rain thursday/friday 3" of snow Saturday/Sunday. Guess i'll have to drag that snowmobile out!

This fall I was forced to put down a load of crushed limestone in a spot where we were backing a truck in a shed everyday. I wanted to wait till spring but it just kept raining and the mud was getting annoying. Anyway, I had the chrushed rock dumped in one place, then I pushed it to where I wanted it in thin layers and rolled each layer with a heavy roller. It took countless trips with the roller, then I would drag it and roll it again. A couple of days later, after the next rain I'd do it again. My neighbors must have thought I had an obsession with this stuff, and they were probably right.

Now we're pushing snow off of it and we still have to be careful, but it's better than it would have been if I wouldn't have spent so much time on it beforehand. Jim

I got one so I could get the tiller head, to weed between the rows of my garden. Lots of manure, lots of weed seeds. Garden space is too small to space the rows wide enough for the BCS tiller.
Got the weedeater head as well, as our weedeater had gone south.

Great machine! Its a 4 cycle (although you still burn gas/oil mix), so it seems to start easier, and much quieter. Both heads work great. Tiller was a pleasant surprise- much more powerful than I anticipated. Weeds nicely going forward, will till 4 inches deep if you pull it backward. I highly recommend it.

Hey Mark, We must live on the same street, it is always customary here to put down gravel on the road sides in the fall, then plow it into the ditch. But we are one up on you here, we salt the road and have the plow follow the salter and throw that in the ditch also, keeps the stone in the ditch from freezing! Dave

That was my thought this morning Ray. Nthing but glare ice under that new couple of inches. Hope I can get it packed solid before it slides off.
