which motor oil???

Hey folks,
just bought a 2006 Kia Sorento w/ 2.5 CRDi (diesel). Oil that has been used is a Mobile 1 in kind of a gold looking bottle. label is worn off so I can't see the viscosity. Looking at the maintenance records, this oil costs about $40 a liter which I don't really want to pay. I can get Mobile1 but not the same as the bottle in the car now. Don't have an owners manual yet, so need to figure out what oil I can use. Do I need to stay with synthetic? If so, can I use just normal Mobile 1?

You need to run diesel grade oil, you don't necessarily have to run synthetic, unless you want to. You do not want to use regular mobil 1, Youcan use mobil delvac 1600 15-40, that is what I use in my diesel. The old container contained, delvec mobil 1 synthetic, FOR DIESEL engines. You can use any oil you want as long as it is specified for DIESEL use. Read the label, also check your owners manual.
 
$40/liter is really close to $40/quart. Wow. In the US, Mobil 1 is about $6/quart and in some places, less. I wonder if you could have some shipped over from the US?

Out of curiosity, what is the oil change interval for your car?

Mobil makes a disel oil which is synthetic.
It is Delvac1. It is a 15w40 oil designed for diesel engines, that would be my choice.

8 qts every 7500 KM (5000 +/- miles).
If I need to stick with the mobil stuff, I'll have my buddy send it to me.
I just picked up the car and am waiting on the owners manual.

supposed to be a Mercedes motor. Runs like he!! and supposed to get 25-30 mpg on the highway (??).

I am a firm believer in the synthetics. Cant figure out why it is so expensive for you. I would stick to thew Delvac oil andeextend the oil change paraMETERS to change oil aT least 7500 miles. My cars and trucks all go 12000 with synthetic and the oil coming out looks clean. all vehicles have over 135000on them now. Henry
