O/T Just had to vent

I recently was looking for a Hub for a john deere 830 and had called Mcgrew and he said he had one and would sell it for 475 i said i would take it and to hold it for me i would be there in less than a week. I started on my way to new paris Indiana and decided to just call and let them know i was on my way, they then notified me that he had sold the hub i needed i was pretty upset so i turned around and came back home but i had a friend call back there and see if he had the hub i needed and low and behold he had two of them, I was really ------ then i guess he just didnt want to sell me one which i completely understand but dont tell somebody you'll sell it then say its gone, I will never do anymore business with mcgrew, they are over priced on everything, so yesterday i drove to missouri for the hub and got it finally, if anybody needs a part for a 2 cylinder go to Conway Missouri to 2 cylinder plus, cant beat the people there nice as can be and half the cost of Mcgrew, sorry to ramble on but i had to vent about this, on a good note hope everyone has a Merry Christmas.

Unless the buyer is personally known to them, many folks who deal in old equipment/parts operate under the principle of "it's sold when I have the money in my hand". They've dealt with too many people who wouldn't/couldn't/didn't do what they'd said they would.

I had the opposite happen, but with sod. It was mid April, only one outfit in town selling it that early. It was a Sunday afternoon, I am standing in line so I can have it first thing Monday morning. They have maybe 10 more strips than I will need. I am 2 away from the counter, someone calls and has them reserve ALL of it, and they did! Would not let me take any, even though I was there! What a joke that place is! Greg

I def understand where your coming from but dont tell somebody your going to sell the part then go back on it and not tell them you would have thought that if they were any type of business they could have called and at least told me

Yea, but he had others, so it wasn't like he might miss a sale. He apparently had 3 if he did sell one and has 2 now. However with that fool if he told me the sky is blue I would have to look and make sure.

Don't consider it a "rant" at all. Consumer awareness networking would be a better description. All consumers lose if they ALL have to learn of these practices the same hard way. Unscrupulous bussiness/practices bank on the hope that consumers DON'T talk or "rant". A person with a masters in marketing/bussiness management didn't get it to help you , the consumer , and they prove every day how ingenious they are at develoving "programs" to more effectively bilk the unsuspecting consumer out of his/her money. Most also have a bussiness law dept. fully staffed to keep their practices just 1/2" back from the edge of illegality. We consumers have the ability to TALK and need to do more of it. If we use this power and our common sense we could concievably get these "marketing masters" fired. Farm equipment bussinesses are not immuned . Second and third generation owners and/or people buying an established bussiness for it's solid name usually milk it a couple years and then go on to another bilking operation somewhere else.

Wife called about a vehicle on the internet yesterday (99.9% of car dealers here are either Russian or Turkish and women belong in the kitchen). Guy hung up the phone on her,.... I called 10 minutes later and had an appointment to look at the vehicle and was offered a better price. Turned out to be junk, but it kinda relates to your vent.

I do business with Conway alot, their word is good, the other clown learned his from Dennis Polk!

Wet up with Mcgrew once ,He was at a Sale here in NY.What a Jerk he had his little kid with him,let the kid get on equipment with the KEYS in them ,and let him Play with the Controls,REAL DUMMY.Acted like a Money Bags Person, every Body else was in his way. And Most who knew ho he was didnt like him, Actions All Ways SPEAK Louder Than Words !

I totally understand your aggrevation. McGrews prices are just plain stupid. Part of the problem dealing with them is they need to get Dustin out of the parts department and let Rich handle things again. I called there a week ago looking for a governor cam idler shaft for a 730 Deere. They wanted 175 for a used shaft. Deere unfortunately doesn't carry the one for a 730 but does have new ones for a 720 for 115.00. So McGrews figures their used parts are worth more than Deere does the OEM part. Needless to say, McGrews didn't get my business.

So you where in Convictville ya I hate that town it is for the most prat or was full of thefts Ya I lived there for about 6 months and lost my dog, my tools, a trailer all to thefts. But yep 2 cylinder plus is a good place to find some parts but not for my 2 cylinder it is to old for them BTDT and they had nothing for it. Oh by the way you where only about 40 miles from me when you where there

The depot for one of the sod farms here has gone to mostly a pre order policy the day before, or earlier, so they know how much to deliver in the morning. They do bring a few extra pallets for small jobs that people can just pick up. If someone ordered sod for a certain day and they are late to pick it up and someone else wants it, they will call the person to see if they're still coming to pick it up. I got sod last year that I had ordered the day before but someone else called to see if they had a few extra pallets that day. The depot told them that if the other person isn't there by 2 o'clock, they could come and get it. That sod farm won't sell sod more than 24 hours old and in the past, a lot of sod got wasted because they never how much would sell each day. Reserving it for someone over the phone while people are standing in line to buy it is pretty dumb. Dave

So you are starting to learn about McScrew, the auctioneer who takes a half an hour to sell one of his machines, yet sells a consignor's in 3 bids!

Sounds like Kiko out of Ohio. They also run a realty service. Come to find out, they usually have a buyer lined up when they go to a sale. If they don't have someone lined up they get out as quick as they can. We had 3 deeds in 13 parcels, instead of selling deed 1, parcel a,b,c,deed 2, parcel a,b,c, they sold high bidder's choice, backbidder's choice, then re bid. Offered each deed as a whole, and didn't offer any other combinations.

A friend and I went to a sale yard over west of Cortland. Found a few pieces from our sale over there. We knew they had bought some of our stuff, but it seems they had someone we didn't know come over to buy some of it, too. The chisel plow even had the spare point I got for it wired to the jack holder I welded to the top of the frame the previous spring.

Of course no one spoke up about any of this until AFTER they gave the place away. Thanks for the glowing reports beforehand, everyone.
