OT Buying Steel Posts

We have to be careful when buying steel posts! Local farm store does not include wire clips when they are on sale. Makes it look like a great deal only I need the clips too. I think I will take them back and buy some when not on sale.

I use old coathangers to tie wire to posts. Its stiff enough to work like the ties. The hangers are free with the uniforms we use at work. ;)

probably better than the soft clips. Any wire used above ground will outlast (x10) the crap thin posts they sell now at the "farm store" sale. Good idea.

local TSC has extra clips. They say many customers use electric fence insulators so they don't take the 5 clips with each post. I have had them give me a big bag of clips or sell for $30, depending on who I talk to at the store.

I don't know where you live, but here in western Iowa farmers have hundreds of used steel posts laying around. Used ones used to sell for $1.00 apiece. I don't what they go for now. Jim

You can use "soft" (not high tensile) 12 gauge galvanized wire an make a good fence clip almost as fast as putting on a premade one.

If you were close, I'd give you a few hundred clips. I've got a box of them - can't bear to throw them away.

That's why my place is so junky.

I'm just a teeny-tiny hobby operation, buying a dozen T-posts is a big deal for me.

Last time I bought a handful, I asked about wire clips. Feller say "You want wire clips? Would ya like a barrel full of them?"

Seems up here in Maine nobody knows what they are or how to use them, at least not locally. He gave me two big plastic bags full, probably a couple of hundred clips in each bag.

Haven't used one since I left the farm in Michigan back in '69, took me a few tries to remember how they go on...

I got over 500 T-posts in Tx a year ago from my son and I need clips. How much would the freight cost me from Pack-rat-Paul to Gypsum KS?

Did a lot,(for me) of fencing last summer. Used
steel posts from Menards. Got 5 clips for each
post. Clips made in China. Clips were so brittle
they wouldn"t bend on, but snapped--worthless
chinese junk.

Why not use 14 ga. galvanized electric fencing wire? Back in the 40's/50's, all we ever used was baling wire. No such thing as "clips".
