Tossing around the idea of going to look at a 99 chevy 1500, 4x4, 5.3L. The truck has 239,000 miles which doesn't scare me. I am just unfamiliar with the 5.3L. Is it a good engine, is it known for certain problems, should I be concerned with it having 239,000 miles on it. Thanks in advance.

I usually buy stuff with over 100K miles- but at least in my experience, everything starts going south at about 250K. Not a problem for me, because I've gotten my miles out of them by then. But I guess I'd be reluctant to buy at 239K. . .

some will run 3+ if it's made 239 miles probably one of the good ones I would think but anything mechanical can let go anytime high miles or not

Wouldn't scare me a bit.As far as piston slap, they had it with zero miles on 'em, nothing new and pro'ly hasn't worsened in all those miles.

Only things that are kinda common to fail are knock sensors(under intake manifold) and intake gaskets which cause lean O2 readings. No common mechanical faults.
