19 inch flat screen by L G, went south this morning and now back to I think 13" and boy it's small, dark, and older then me... Wondering if these can be fixed or are they a throw away like most other things anymore. Being a pack rat paid off this time, wife wanted me get rid of it, glad I didn't. 2 1/2 years old.

I just throw mine away when they quit. I have a friend who is now retired, but owned a TV repair business. They could not even work on the monitors-the manufactures would not sell them the parts. So, if you want it repaired, it would have to go to the computer hospital! Greg

I finally broke down and bought a Acer 19 inch LCD for 99 dollars with free shipping. Best thing I ever did. Every thing is throw away now.

I've been inside them & got lucky and fixed one of several. Unless the problem is obvious such as broken wire, component, burned or leaking part that is identifiable, the chances are slim. Most ICs are foreign & very difficult to cross in order to obtain a new component even if on a long shot you could identify it as a bad part. Just open it & if you don't see the problem in less than 5 minutes, I say it is a new anchor.

I don't know what there is to repair on a FP monitor. The resident Geek at work says to just dumpster one that isn't working right. They are too cheap to screw with.
I'd just go to wallyworld and get a new flat panel. I got a 22" Dell for $140 last summer. As the CRTs die or get un-comfortable for me to read, I replace them with flat panels. Have them on the plasma system and shop computers. I like billboards rather than street signs.

A few days ago the power button, on-off light started blinking when you turned it on, I always shut it down at night. May take 3-4 minutes for it to stop blinking then it would come on, through the day if it would go into sleep mode it would take another 3-4 minutes to come back on. Well this morning it blinked about 3 times and went dead, tower was normal with its loading up. Everything OK now but the small screen has to go, 69 year old eyes aren't what they use to be. Don c

The Unit is probably backlit with fluorescent tubes. From the slow startup, ans described issue I would say that is it. If the illumination can be fixed for less 2/3 of a new screen, I would do it.
Google the model and see if it has an issue with the problem. If so recycle it. Jim

I'd say get a new one would be in order. My 24" Viewsonic was under $200 year before last. No telling how cheap they are now. Of all the flat screens I liked the Viewsonic the best. It was one of the few that let you manually calibrate gamma. I tried to find a good 24 inch CRT since they calibrate so much nicer in the pink tones but I couldnt find one priced right.

I pulled out of the garbage across the street a Samsung 20" flat screen that i wanted to tare it apart and see what was wrong with it. But first i plugged it in to see what it acted like. There was nothing wrong with it and i am still using it as i only had a 17".

I just bought a new Dell 19" from Staples last week for $149.00. The problem with your bad one is finding someone to repair it for a reasonable price.

I wouldn't buy anything but a flat screen LCD HDTV. Big sales right now before Christmas. They all have a vga plug in, even the 42 inchers. Get tired of the computer, switch over to TV mode and watch the game. I'm using a 26" HDTV right now on this computer. As my eyes get worse, I may go to a bigger one. In some cases the tv is cheaper than the monitor. As long as you are at least 720p, then it seems to have all the resolution I want. It's always handy to have a spare tv around.
