Bobcat 825 will not start

I have a Bobcat 825 Diesel that has been sitting for about six months and ran great when parked. Replaced battery and still starter will not turn or solenoid will not even click. Checked ground and positive connection to starter. Couple of questions. Does the cage need to be bolted back down to test every time or can be left in raised position to start? When hooking up battery, I don"t get any spark when playing around hooking up battery ends. Bad ground or cable? What is the next step in diagnosing the problem. Thanks for any help,
Jeff

Bad ground? The cage may need to be grounded. Have you tried boosting directly to the starter? My skid steer has had some ground issues because the batteries are behind the seat and ground to the cab. I'm going to run another ground wire down to the engine so I know the starter is going to work. The stud for the ground in the cab is on the bottom of the battery tray. This seems really stupid to me as that's where any rust will start from water or melted snow. On the side would have made more sense. Dave

Cage will probably need to be down and you seated in the seat and safety bar down so all the safety interlocks will alow the starter to engage.

On a New Holland, there is a switch you can flip so the starter will engage, engine will run, etc. But the arms won't move. That way you need not be in the seat for testing or warmups. Prolly something similar on one of those bobcats.

Might be that the seat belts have to be coupled in order for it to start. NOT SURE BUT THERE WOULD BE WIRES AT THE BELT. SOME DO. NOT SURE THIS IS ONE THAT DOES> GOOD LUCK.

I think an 825 is before seat bars and all the safety switches in the seat and seat belt. That's why I suggested boosting right to the starter. If the starter still doesn't work, I'd say the starter/solonoid is the problem. Dave

Now on the era Bobcat that an 825 is alot of them had an electrical plug that needed to be pulled apart before the cab is raised, if not the action of raising the cab would often unplug the connector. On the ones I"m familiar with if your sitting in the seat the plug is on the left hand side down almost behind the seat.

The 825 is very simple, no electronics or safeties to worry about. Go to the back of the machine, and look down to the lower left side of the engine. On top of the starter is the solenoid, one heavy guage wire goes up to your battery positive terminal. Below that wire is a big nut with a strap of copper that goes into your starter motor. Jump from the heavy wire down to that nut and your starter should turn. Be careful not to short from the heavy wire to ground! As some else mentioned, when you flip up an 825 cage, the plug comes apart, follow the wires back from where your key goes.
Good luck,
Jerry
