My 70 jd i bought has a stuck clutch how do i free it up and which penetrating fluid? What steps should i take? The motor may be stuck to whats the way to free this up?

I prefer to take my time getting the clutch unstuck. Force just breaks things. Soaking the adjusting nuts and bolts up first. Getting them loose and off. Then pulling the plates/disks and driver. Sometimes they are sort of stuck together too. Could be that the adjusting bolts are stuck in the pulley holes also so they will need soaking and more than likely the pulley will have to come off to clean everything up. You will have to pull the clutch forks out to pull the pulley off. Not a bad job. Getting the clutch driver off might be the biggest task. Well worth the time and effort when you finally feel and hear the snap of the clutch!

Before you pull the clutch driver off the end of the crank shaft take notice of the two "witness marks" - one on the end of the crank and one on the driver.

They need to be lined up again when you reinstall the driver.

There are no marks on a 70. The clutch driver is a drive disc only. No balancing is done by the driver. That only applies to the smaller tractors. Any spline can be put at any location.

Pete, the 70 crankshaft is internally balanced. There are no index marks on the clutch driver. Just wanted to let you know. Mike

Thanks wilamayb, Mike A, and blinwmiaol.com for the education.
I've worked on the letter series and erroneously thought all the 2 cylinders were the same.
Live and learn, thanks again.
Pete
