i found a w9 that has been in a barn for the last 40 years. the story i got was that the seller, who is in his mid 70"s, had drug it out of a shed that was comin down. it was put there a long time ago when the sellers father died. he said it is stuck and he dosnt know why. the tires are good with no cracks and the paint is slightly faded( which im geussing is an overstatement ). he wants 600 for it. is this a good deal?

haha no wife...i can do all i want. most people ive talked to say it is expensive to rebuild one of these. is that true? plus the guy says there is no coolent in it. no coolent and the motor is stuck....hmm. kind of makes me wonder.

600 is CHEAP!! It is probably just lightly stuck due to condensation formed it the engine after sitting for so long. Pour some auto tranny fluid down the spark plug holes, let sit for a week or so and then try breaking it loose by either rocking it back and forth with it in high gear or bumping it with the starter. I freed an H that had been sitting inside a metal building and became stuck, it came loose after a little soaking and pressure on the hand crank.

It can be expensive to overahul, but you are offseting that expense with the cost of the tractor

Buy it, you could ge tthe money back by parting it out if you wanted

No coolant is easy to explain- back in the day, many with old tractors didn't bother with antifreeze, especially if they leaked a little bit- they just drained them in cold weather.
