Lost my big pet.

Mac died last night I think maybe the cold hurried him along. Will miss that big guy out watching over his small herd of cows.
I called a taxidermist and he will mount the head for $1000 Don't want to spend the money right now but sure want to keep something as he was the largest Limousin Bull around here and was quite a land mark.
so I spend the $1000 and pay later but I will get my mantle piece for the rest of my life.

He's mighty handsome. You sure get attached to those animals. Glad you're having the head mounted. Hal

Sorry to hear he"s gone.

My FIL had a big Brahman bull we called Smokey. He thought he was a pet. Anytime you were out in the pasture, here he"d come, hoping for a handout or some scrathin". He was just as gentle as he could be.

He is a awesome Walt. It amazing how attached you can get to a animal. I am attaching a pic of Nancy one of our great cow. I gave her the first bottle. I led her in the show ring and then she became a non breeder. We had two great daughters and several grand daughters, Spent a lot of bucks with a reproduction vet trying to get a flush. They said it was inpossible. So, she went through the Sale as a butcher cow, I never will forget her lookin back as she went down the alley. She loved to travel.

Sorry about your loss, Walt- glad you can keep a remembrance.

Gitrib, that is one gorgeous Guernsey. Pic reminds me of the judging contests in Hoard's Dairyman- I haven't seen that magazine in 25 years, is it still around? Do they still have the judging contests?

Walt I am sorry I cut in your thread. But it is terrible to lose any animal that has given it's all to you. Some people have a hard time understanding this. A great animal is always great and is alway in your mind. I am so glad that I have a good picture of Nancy. It is over the fireplace mantel.

Walt-

You gotta do this with the ring still in the nose, ya know. . .

I went to work for a neighbor with registered Angus after I finished 8th grade in 1962. One of my jobs was changing irrigation pipes. I had been around cattle all my life and was comfortable with them, but was a little nervous when the Angus bull followed me for about half the line- would stand by the end of the pipe I was moving, walk with it over to the new setting, then back to the next pipe, etc. He finally lost interest and moved back to the herd. I grew up with dairy bulls, which are pretty dicey, and didn't know how much I could trust a beef bull.

I mentioned it to the boss, and he got a good laugh- "That's Mike, our best bull- he wants you to scratch his head with the irrigation pipe. Just give him a couple scratches each time, and eventually, he'll get enough and move on." So from then on, Mike got his head scratched when I changed pipes in his field.

I don't believe Mike's head got mounted when he passed, but I think its a great idea.
