Ed:

The recommended hydraulic oil for your 640 is CNH 134D or equivalent year round. Thinning is neither needed nor recommended.

Your problem could be caused by poor or incorrect O-rings between the hydraulic manifold and pump and/or hydraulic manifold and transmission, a failed pump shaft seal or incorrect oil.

We had a 850 ford tractor that was mounted on the outside right of engine,Had to replace that pump when pressure got weak.Don,t delute with anything, could only cause more trouble.

I have had problems with my 801/841 for years and now day to keep from having any problems I keep a block under the back blade I keep on it when ever it is parked. That keep the blade up and off the ground and that seems to have fixed my problem

My brother has the same problem with our 640 which dad bought in 1955. The best answer is to put in synthetic fluid (75W90, not 80W90) which will flow at low temperatures. A little expensive but works.
