OT That was too close.

Yesterday I went deer hunting till dark and walking out of the woods i grabbed a tree to steady myself. Well i hear a CRACK and the tree starts to fall on me. Just managed to junp forward so it fell behind me. Where i was no one would here me yell for help.

glad to hear you were smart and quick enough to get out of the way we had a guy riding his 4 wheeler and got stuck on a vine he powered through it and it it broke the top of a pine it hit just behind him and bent his metal rack if it had landed on his head most defiantly would have killed him.

If a hunter yells in the forest and there is no one around to hear him, does he make a sound?

Seriously, Larry, glad to hear that your are OK.

I know all about those trees in the woods, while working in the forest in upper Wy. in 67 I was getting some firewood for the camp fire and heard a crack. Looked up just in time see what was going to hit me. Knocked me cold even though it hit me in the middle of the back. I spent three days in the Riverton hospital and all summer getting better. Boy those Lodge Pole Pines are Killers.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I guess it depends on if you are half way in the woods or half way out.

The way my wife says it is:
If a man says something in the forest and no one is there to hear it, is he still wrong?

Seems like someone here posted several years ago, about a neighbor that caught a vine on his tractor, and it pulled a treetop down, killing him.

I have had a few close calls with tops falling when I was cutting dead trees.

anyone working in the woods even a little bit has these stories. My timber cutter felled a tree & stood over & back to watch. Grapevines in its top pulled a dead snag over well behind him & nearly coldkocked'm. OK & back to work next day. Them old timbercutters are tough.
