New Grape Wine is off..!!!!!!

Congratulations!
I didn't make any wine this year, but I helped some friends harvest their 15 acres of grapes here in Southeastern Minnesota: Frontenacs, Frontenac Gris, La Crescents, Sabrevois, Marquettes, and some others. Good year for grapes!

Howdy. How U doin? Just read your post about making wine. I haven"t made any but I"m looking for a good recipe for Mead. I joined the Ohio Bee Keepers this year and have access to some good honey. Thinking of using pears. What do you think? I didn"t make it to the show. Bet it was a good one. The work is slowing down on the J D. My shop isn"t heated and it"s getting a little mite cold. Have a good one and take care. rw

I have a front blade on the JD "B" and a rear blade on the 630 JD...ready to go..!!

I don't know if you could call this stuff wine at a hundred proof, but a Russian guy up the street makes something out of berries, honey, and walnuts that is some real good sipping stuff.....

did, 3 batches. 2 batches good the 3rd a little acidic, cant figure it, i adjusted the ph the same on all 3. grape winemaking seems harder to me than say peach, pawpaw, plum wines.. heres to your health.

I am looking forward to trying some of your wine. The bottle you gave me last summer was great. Some of the people that tried it couldn"t find their way home. If we don"t see you New Years Eve have prosperpous and healthly new year.
Happy holidays, Bill

Haven"t got the "H" running yet but it"s comming along. Got a "D" series 18 horse Wheelhorse with a blade on it ready to go. Also got a back blade on the J.D. 40. Just picked up an anvil for the shop this morning. I surely hope I don"t have to push any snow this year. If it gets that bad I"ll just stay in. Good to hear from you. Take care and have a good one. rw

No grape wine this year, the grapes all rotted before ripening. Kept them sprayed with fungicide too. Did make some blackberry though, and its pretty tasty. Better luck next year.
Joe
PS Made some cranberry, its drinkable too.

We buy bread from a friend, and when we go to pick it up, always have some of their latest wine to come off. Their blackberry and raspberry is to die for. Last time, gooseberry- I guess it was about as good as you can do with gooseberries, and was certainly "drinkable", but guess I'm spoiled after the other berries.

Bill, it is pleasure to visit and I will certainly try to get out there..AND bring plenty wine with me..!!
Hope Char like it too...!
This year's is really good..!

Hope to hear from everyone...!

Merry Christmas to everyone..!!

Ron..

15 Acres....Oh-No..!!!

How many bushels (Tons?) of grapes would that be..!!!
I just try to stay under the legal limit for private production..!!!
All is for gifts or "pain-reliever"...!!!

Have cousin-in-law that has a vinyard over in NE Texas.

He's been in business for about 8 years.

Sure makes some good wine; Nancy's favorite is the White Zinfandel.

What is your favorite wine?

Have 9 gallons that just finished working this week. Will rack tomorrow, add a little sweetener and will be ready to start drinking about xmas time!!!

Didn"t have many wild grapes around this year, usually make about 30 gallons.

Congratulations on the good wine. I didn't make any this year, but have in the past. Very interesting process. Like another poster said, I made some from gooseberries a few years ago, and it was quite tolerable - much better with a little age.

Most interesting I ever made was persimmon. It was so clear you could read a newspaper through the jug, but I think I could have poured it in the tractor and plowed with it. You know the taste you sometimes get when you siphon gas? Had eight gallons of it, and couldn't drink it - it got to be about three years old and the neighbor mentioned that he'd always wanted to try persimmon wine. I sent him a gallon home. In about a week he brought the empty back and I eventually ran almost all of it through him. I wondered how he could drink it, and tried a little sip. Doggone stuff was real smooth after aging. Drank the last gallon myself. . .

Blackberry is my favorite.
