I bought a leroi/dresser compressor at a sale that was announced to have a perkins engine. WRONG!! the plate on the engine says LUCAS then Leroi /dresser with a s/n of 3249FO 30;what do I have? i need some parts and would like to know what I'm talking about. 4 cylinder, diesel, smaller than a perkins 203cid,fuel pump high on the right side, viewed from the back. Delco starter and alternator. Any help?????

Interesting, A google search turn up a lot of Lucas fuel injection hits, but nothing about a Lucas diesel engine. The plate with the lucas name is on the engine block and not on the injection pump ??

A few good, close up pictures will speak a thousand words...
As far as fuel pump orientation is concerned, give your left/right orientations as if you were standing at the clutch housing facing the radiator.
By that standard a Perkins will generally have the pump on the left and the intake manifold will be on that side with the exhaust on the other side. The starter is also generally on the pump side (left).
Again. Pictures.
