anyone know anything about Blue ribbon seed corn?
it would have been available between 1960-1980.
My dad said it would always do the best on our land. He thinks it came out of wisconsin. Sounds like it was hard to find in MN back then. Where would you get it today?

thanks

100's of seed corn companies have come and gone in the last 40 years.

The genetics have also all changed.

If you would find them they don't have the same corn genetics they did in the 80's. If they do, don't buy it.

Today's genetics are superior to those of the 80's.

Your Dad probably thought "best" was about 40 bpa. He probably thought the new 1953 Ford was the greatest. And he marveled at the all new powerful Farmal 560.
Use what the other guys in the area are using today.

oh no, he didn't like that old stuff.
the new 656 and 1256 were the cat's meow. the 73 ford was his favorite car. mine is a 96 impala ss.

we do realize things have gotten better. We're wondering because we're thinking about farming without using GMO seed, and figure a descendant of something that worked in its time might be a starting point. from my search efforts last night, if it was the troyer blue ribbon, it looks like almost all modern hybrids are related.
I got a test answer wrong in middle school 15 years ago because when i gave an example of the word [i:654c4848f0]yield[/i:654c4848f0] I wrote "200/bu acre of corn." The teacher told me that 150 would have been out of line too. And it was only social studies class!

if we are going backwards, we're not trying to go 100 years backwards, just a conscientious step backwards.

thanks
