Jubilee PTO leaking oil.

How much fun is it to replace the oil seal on the PTO of a Jubilee? Do I need to pull the shaft to replace the seal?

Must drain hyd and rearend oils then pullshaft and remove inner snap ring and remove housing to replace seal

it will be fun,
first nose the tractor into a ditch, then you dont have to drain anything, then per my service manuel, remove the 4 cap screws, from the cover and remove the pto shaft assembly. remove the outer snap ring from the pto cover. attach a puller and pull the cover assembly from the shaft, the pto cover, when removed will contain the oil seal and inner snap ring, remove the snap ring and drive the seal from the cover, replace seal and snap ring, assemble in reverse order

If I did put the nose of the tractor in a low place and pulled the pto shaft, won't the oil in the rear end mix with the oil in the hydraulics? I just changed both oils and the rear end oil smelled like toxic waste and it only had a quart of oil in it..my guess is that the pto seal is the reason rear end was low..I don't think I would want the rear end oil to mix with the hydraulic oil. Thanks for telling me how much fun I have to look forward to.

if if you want you can drain the hydraulic oil and save it, should be 8 qts per the original owners manuel , the service manuel doesnt say anything about draining either, so it may not drain out too much with the pto shaft removed

Why doesn"t the oil run forward and above the end of the pto shaft opening in the rear sump when you put the front wheels of this tractor in a ditch?

I couldn't find Lucas Hub Seal at Nappa. Went to Rural King and got some Barrs transmission stop leak. Sounds like a good idea to try the simple things first. No telling how long the seal has been setting high and dry. The rear end only had a quart of oil in it when I got it. BTW it only leaves about a 2 inch spot on the garage floor in a day. I think I'll invest in some oil dry and see if the stop leak works. Thanks to everyone for your advice.

Thank you J Heitkemper for your tip. Bar's transmission stop leak worked in just 15 minutes. I would have never tried stop leaks. Sometimes the simple things really do work. Thank you,Thank you,Thank you George
