hi i just got an Oliver 70 row crop serial # 263264 and i need some info. i wanted to know the difference between an Oliver 70 and a 70 row crop, the tractor i have has white rims front and back original paint on them, who can i tell if it is a six speed i can not tell by shifting, it also as a canvas seat that slips over the two movable seat bars. any other info will help thanks mitch

dont think the white paint came out until the 770. a lot of guys painted the rims and grille white.thats the way my 77 was when i got it. i kinda prefer it to the original. bill m.

OK because the rims i have r original paint and the guy i bought it from bought it new that way (no paper work tho)

Yep,those rims would have been red. As far as the difference between a 70 and 70 Row Crop, none I guess, unless the other 70 happened to be a 70 Standard. Then it would only be the front axle, the rear axle length and rear tire size. The rest of the components would be the same.

Along with the new streamline tin and 6 cyl, there were something like 13 different paint codes that could be ordered. The green/red wheel combo was the standard at the dealerships.Iknow that others could verify this.

The 70 never had white as a color on it. The white wasn't introduced until the 3 digit models. That being said your seller either can't quite remember or isn't the original owner if it came with white wheels when he bought it. Wheels are a very easy thing to switch around, and I can guarantee that a 40 year old paint job can look like a factory done 60 year old paint job without too much difficulty.

1948 was last year for the 70. It would have had a green body, red wheels, yellow grille, and some red & yellow trim. No white anywhere. Oliver did not use white until the 770/880 series in 1958. I have been wrong on here before but this I am sure of.

Oliver experimented with some different paint schemes on 70's in the mid-late 30's. They were mostly for promotional purposess. At one event they even had people vote on their favorite combination. As far as I know none of them ever went farther than that.

The 70 was available as row crop, standard/wheatland, orchard, and industrial models. Row crop versions came with narrow front end, single front wheel, or adjusable wide front axles.

Hope this helps.

for the 6 speed, the pattern is:

5_____1
2aa!
aaa!
6__!__3
4aaaaaR

ignore all the "a"s- I had to put them in to make the preview look right. the underscore and exclamation show the pattern- like a capital I- with the numbers and R showing the positions of the gears.
the way I understand it, tractors that came from the factory on steel had 5th and 6th disabled, but the rest of the pattern is the same.
