On a related subject to my other post,has anybody ever come up with a good way to fix or replace the rubber wheels in the husking bed of a 326 8 roll for example,after the rubber fingers have been broken off. I've got some corn that I can't get the husks off of,and it's raising hobb on those rubber fingers and exaserbating the problem. I'm nervous about trying something stupid that might break off,go through the rolls and tear up the corn saver chain.

google "corn picker forum"; we just had a discussion about this. There's a guy who rebuilds them if you don't want to do it yourself.

Have you priced any of those lately? I wasn't in the market to spend the price of a new picker.

Google "Schweiss chicken plucker" in MN, see if those fingers could be adapted. Might have to come up with a different mount.

I've got some rods here from some broken wheel rake tines. I'd thought about drilling small holes in the rubber,then heating those rods up red hot and driving them into the slightly smaller holes. The rubber would still let them flex. I just don't know if the rubber would mold to them when it cooled or not. That's the plan that has me worried about raising hobb on the corn saver chain.

I was looking at a friends New Idea with him yesterday. He had just ordered all new fingers and rollers. I want to say it was about $350.00

I don't know where he got that many parts for that price. There are a whole bunch of those wheels in there in several sizes. Last I knew they ranged from $45-90 each.

is the metal and the rubber all one part or is the rubber finger (wheel) separate? If they are separate we could probalby make them. Someone post a picture with the diameter, # of fingers and thickness and I'll look at it. email is open.
