O.T.- Shipping containers

A quick question. Do these containers have the condensation problem like a steel pole barn does? I'm guessing not or they would be worthless for weeks-long over seas shipment, but just wanted to know for sure.

Yes they do. I used to work for a company that would ship Caterpillar hyd. fittings to Japan and there was a problem with corrosion of the plating on the parts from the salt air. We fixed it by shrink wrapping the crates and putting desiccants in with the parts.
I'd say the quickest way to fix condensation problems is to line the inside with foam insulation board and cover that with 3/8" plywood at least. You will need to put in a vent or two. If you have electric close by, you could put in a small vent fan on a timer or something. What are you planning to store in there?

Steel is steel. Neither have moisture problems if insulated (when heat is used), vented, and protected with a vapor barrier. My neighbor owns and runs a saw mill. He keeps all his kiln dried wood in shipping containers with zero problems.

I have three pole barns and two houses with steel roofs. No moisture problems.

40 footer i bought to use as a feed house has vents built in...havent noticed any sweating but it doesnt get as cold down here in Tejas...spray foam or foam panels glued to walls inside should cure moisture probs.

Yes, even the vented ones will get condensation on them. We load and unload 10 to 15 a day, and within the last month its has gotten worse because of the goofy weather we have here.

Well, we have two small children and a small house, too. I basically need a place to store some home furnishings until the kids get old enough to slow down on their climbing and tripping over their own feet. Some things have sharp edges/corners and some make substitute ladders, until they break, that is. And as everyone already knows, you can never have too much storage.
