Power Washers

We bought a Husky from Home Depot. It was a light to moderate use plug-in model (approx $140.00)not powered by a gas engine. It saw limited use and in less than 1 yr. a tiny part in the spray gun trigger gave it up and it wouldn't spray.

We determined water was getting to the spray gun, but the trigger wasn't working. We dismantled the spray gun, found the broken part and just removed it. Part probably cost all of ten cents. The sprayer works, but the trigger on the spray gun is on all the time. Won't buy a Husky again, that's for sure.

watch those chinese no name engines. A couple of years ago in an ice storm we bought a bunch of them for emergency power and they would run 10-12 hours and lock up tight. Make sure it has a Briggs or another known brand engine...probably also made in cheena but at least with some degree of better engineering, tooling and steel.

of course I meant we bought gen sets with the cheena engines. power washers have them too, especially coleman brand.

Alladin is the only way to go in my opinion. It will make you cry when you pay for it, but 2000+psi of hot water is what you need to CLEAN anything...not just wash it.
A good used one can be found from out of business hog farmers, at least in IL and IN.

Thanks for the input fellas, the one I was looking at was powered by a briggs and Stratton, I need to check into the pump. I would like to go with the heating option, but it's out of my price range now, just looking for something to keep the mud at bay for the time being.

(quoted from post at 17:58:06 11/23/09) Looking to buy a new power washer. Has anyone had any experience with those sold at TSC, or any other suggestions?

The box stores like to carry washers with Honda motors with cheap pumps. Reasoning is the motor sells the washer not the pump. I just got through replacing the cheapo pump on my Honda powered washer. Very very common problem as I found out. The pumps go well before the motor.

Like buikanddeere said... go with the Comet or Cat pump. Well worth the investment. I replaced mine with a Comet and much better performance. The good pumps actually cost more then the motor. You will definitely see this in the pricing in the stores as well.

Hot water washing is no problem with a quality ceramic pump. Just connect to the hot water tap and go.

You asked for other suggestions. Here is my answer to high pressure washers. Unit was under construction when this photo was taken. Cat plunger pump was bought new more than 20 years ago. It was mounted on two other trucks and driven by their PTOs previously. It can absorb 40 hp and I think it is rated for 5000 psi @ 10 gpm. A 90 gallon aluminum tank mounts on fast hitch. The tank and pump can be hose fed or charged with another pump not shown here. Pulleys have been swapped top for bottom currently.
