801 Ford Roosa Master Injection Pump timing

I assume you are referring to the static timing and not any timing advance settings?

The flywheel is set at 18 degrees BTDC for the 172 or 20 degrees BTDC with the 144 engine - with #1 cylinder on the compression stroke. At this point, the two timing marks in the pump window should be aligned.

You don't really have to know all that. But it is helpful if you do. Just take the timing door off of the pump. Line the marks up and then you can remove the pump. Just make sure the engine is not turned while the pump is off.

That only works if the pump was already in time. That does not work if someone has messed with it and it's not in time. Also does not work if the pump has been off and the engine turned a bit. Those two lines don't mean much unless the engine is where is ought to be. That's why the flwheel has degree marks on it.

You cannot determine if a pump is timed properly just by seeing those two marks in line.

jedmaris. I agree with what you say. I have always worked with engines that I know have not had the pump off. Some were in gensets where you could not see the timing marks. And yes with the pump off do not move the engine. Had a customer do that one time. I could have killed him.
