(quoted from post at 12:18:09 11/19/09) They have rednecks in Europe?

Vito

You'd be surprised.......... Especially the folks in the East before the wall fell. Homemade just about everything. Tractors, cars, whatever was needed. Used to be a tv commercial with two Haflingers (horses) hitched to a microbus. Windshield was removed and one drove the horses while another steered the bus.

Dave

Dave,
You have Amish over there? By the way a neighbor breeds those Haflingers.

Vito

Gotta ask the wife about the Amish. Maybe Mennonites.....

I like the Haflingers, they just don't bring much money here.

Dave

That must be photoshopped??
Are you seriously telling me that there is a crane operator out there stupid enough to STRADDLE a power line?

There was a man killed here a few years ago doing something similar and he was actually standing several feet away from the truck... but electricity does strange things sometimes.

I forget the fine that the guy got, on top of losing his friend... but the fine was stiff too.

So I wonder... is that for real? The safest guy in that picture is the one sitting on the mower.

It looks like the wires are in the foreground, probably not close to the crane. But even so I'd add this to the "Why women live longer than men" page...

I think you answered your own question.

"There was a man killed here a few years ago doing something similar"

I myself have met a couple, and got away as fast as my feet would take me.

It looks to me like the wires disappear behind the lift straps and cable... but not the boom... so I'd say he straddled the line wires... and I get chastised for being dangerous.

A lot safer than the 2 rednecks, who decided to trim a hedge with a push mower, by each holding under the deck, between the 2 of 'em, they lost like 17 fingers, and also got a special decal put on ALL lawnmowers, saying, Do Not Use As A Hedge trimmer, along with a cartoon of severed fingers!

If you knew the history of the AMISH you would know Europe was where they started all because of infant baptism.
