Got to get a new vacuum

Our Hover finally died after 25 years (spun bearing) and am looking at new vacuums. I am the one who does the vacuuming and want one that does a good job, I want to get done faster than before and don't want to have to buy one for a long time. Price is important but I am the one that will be using it so I want to make the job go easier if you what I mean.

Are the Dyson's available in the States? Real pricey, but good. If you can find one then compare it to an LG, Samsung, or other Korean made one you'll still get a decent machine and reasonable priced. But, nuthin sucks like an Electrolux..........

Good Luck,

Dave

i have two royal commercials, one upright and one backpack that i use at my rental propertys. a little more costly than a homeoner one, but 10 times the quality. any commercial cleaning supplier will carry them.
royal vaccuums

Dave, the OLD Electrolux brand was indeed a high quality vacuum cleaner. My wife bought a new one about 10 years ago, and it was disappointing. Mostly made out of plastic, and not very tough plastic at that. She's wasn't rough on it, but it had several broken pieces that needed replaced, but were not essential for operation. Parts are very expensive, and when I offered to fix it, she said when she ran out of bags she was getting a new one. She bought a cheap Bissel, and the Electrolux is now history.

My mom had an Electrolux, back when they were built like a tank, and it was as you said - "Nothing sux like an Electrolux".

My wife likes her Dyson as well. Found ours at Lowes, but you see them other places as well. Been working well for 3-4 years now and occasionally she gets something stuck in it and I really like how it is built. So far nothing has broken on it and it works like the first day it came home. Can't say that about most of what we purchase these days.

YMMV,

Kirk

You got a couple of things that need addressing...you want it to last and you want things easier and you want less expensive. Not gonna happen. One of those will go and the "easier" will.
We have a Hoover Windtunnel Self Propelled. She vacuums and since she got the self propelled, the vacuum world stops right there. It MUST be a self propelled even if I have to fix it once a week. Had it for over a year and a piece of plastic inside broke...that's because she lifted it by the handle which is cable attached to this broken piece of plastic. I paid 8 bucks for that piece and installed it and she's good to go.
I since taught her where the lifting point is.
If you've never run a self propelled, you ain't lived. I even vacuum once in a while. Two fingers to push it forward and one finger to pull it back. About 200 and never look back.
This is your "easier" part.

central vacumn with a 120vac powered head for carpet. mount vacumn in garage, can be exhausted outside if you prefer.
I have a 30' hose sometimes wish it was 35'
one port in main house, one port in basement, one port in garage next to power unit
good luck
Ron

I've actually had a couple of Oreck uprights. So far so good. The first one got stolen after a couple of years. We've had the second a little over a year. They suck hard, are very light, and I like how the bags install and are made. I split the vacuming duties so I have used it quite a bit.

We have a Dyson Animal and I use it like a shop vac. I've picked up drywall sanding dust and it's true-it doesn't lose suction. It has a filter that should be washed every 6 months-not blown out/replaced every time you use it like the Hoover bagless we had. Darn thing doesn't even have a belt!

Oreck is what the commercial cleaning people swear by. Me I have a Kenmore and am happy. If you can call owning a vac a happy thing.

On our daughter's recommendation, I bought my wife a Dyson for Mother's Day a couple of years ago.

She'd just vacuumed with her old one a day or two before, and you wouldn't believe what all the Dyson picked up.

Our daughter has a cat in her apartment, and she'd been using her old vacuum. She bought a Dyson, and the first time she used it, she filled the cannister twice with cat hair that her old vacuum never got.

We have had a Rainbow for a few years now & it works good. No bags but has a water pan dirt catcher that has to be emptied after each use. If you don't, it will start to grow nasty, smelly things!

We have an Oreck that we had for about 25 years and still going strong. I do the regular maintenance needed such as a new belt when needed and I did get a new brush for it off E-bay. Sometimes I clean the brush of string and hair and oil the end bearings. I also like the way the dirt goes up through the handle and into the bag at the top so it doesn't have to push up against the dirt to get into the bag. Also light and easy to handle and carry up stairs.

I do all the vacuuming at our house too. I like our Eureka boss smartvac. Trouble free, easy to use, and good suction.

Get a Roomba(sp) and it will do the vacuuming for you. I think that's what they're called, it's a robot vacuum that returns to it's recharging base when done. I think there are similar types of lawn mowers too. Dave

The cable lever broke on my Hoover Windtunnel also. I made a replacement for it out of metal and now the wife can lift it anyway she wants.
The vacuum height has to be adjusted with the handle in the upright position or else the height adjuster will be screwed up.
