guess it's time to let go.. of our car

In December of '97, we bought a '98 Dodge Stratus for $10,500. Been a good car except for 2 head gaskets and normal stuff (brakes, wheel bearings, and tierod ends). Still has the original battery  .
Anyway, it's starting to show it's age, doors working hard and squawking, starting to rust through in places, and recently running rough periodically and the check engine light is on more than it's off. Took it this evening to the guy that usually works on our stuff. He checked a few sensors, fuel/air filter, and a couple other things. Said that he could go deeper, but advised to drive it til it don't go anymore and throw it away. If it was mine, I'd milk it awhile. But it's the wife's DD and I can do without having her stuck on the side of the road (and the accompanying nagging).
Looking at it honest and practical, the car has cost 1200 bucks a year. Guess it's paid for itself.
Question is now, to either junk it and save someone else the headache or give it to someone and let them have at it?

If it's the wifes DD then by all means get her another one to save you a lot of grief , sell it to some kid for a starter car and let them deal with it's problems

How many miles??

Seams like too simple a question but.... When were the plugs changed last? If they've got some age you'll be amazed at how much better it will run.

Like you mentioned if it was mine I'd keep going. What other cars do you have?.... you could keep it as a beater car and save the miles/wear-tear and salt from the other cars you have. You probably won't get much for it if it has very many miles.

160k. Plugs, filters, etc were changed 15k ago. Costs too much to keep an extra vehicle and parking places are limited also. Figure if I give it away, I'm money ahead. May stick it on ebay though.

Chryslers were known for bad heads on all there front drive four cylinders if that is what you have. Trade it in on a GM or Ford cross-over, or small truck. I've been looking at the new GMC Terrain. Looks neat, yet is still small and has lots of options standard. Used cars now with all the gadgets are harder to find one not having some of that stuff not working or acting up. I've been doctoring my kids cars for years, even after they left home. Told them last year, they can figure out how to pay for their own repairs or quit driving!

Took my 97 Ranger in for a recall on the Speed control unit, and was looking at a very pretty Shelby Cobra all black convertible. I bet the wife would love driving that to work.
Hope she reads this.

In this area theres a couple tax deduction non profits whuch take any donated vehicles w/clear titles. One is a "trouble youths" facility who teaches their clients mechanical repair on vehicles, boats, cycles etc.Repairables are fixed, inspected, sold.Others are parted or recycled for scrap. One area dealer also repairs some donated or tradein low dollar vehicles and then "gifts" them to persons/familys critically in need of basic transport, verified through community social services orgs.Current low local vehicle scrap prices and requirements is making fixing up some"croakers" beneficial.

seems like it needs a service. what is that check light? alternator or oil.
Could put "Paris" in the boot for the time being as an alternative mode.
