MH or MF 50

I have been reading different forums and I am getting really confused. Some are saying they have a Massey Ferguson MH-50.As far as I know there is a MF 50 and a MH 50 but no combination of thed two If so I have no idea what I have. It had a Massey Ferguson decal on it,but, the serial number tag says MH 50. It was painted MF50 colors ,but, If you scrap the grey paint it looks like it is a bronze color under it. I just am not sure.

After Massey Harris purchased Ferguson but before the name switch to Massey Ferguson, they they were Massey Harris Ferguson. Later models were just Massey Ferguson but some castings still had M-H-F on them. Same tractors though. Dave

After the merger, in 1955 a two line policy was developed. Ferguson dealers sold the F-40 while Massey Harris sold the MH50. Essentially identical, they were sold in differnt dealerships. In 1958, the two line policy was scrapped and the lines were joined. Dealers stuck with old models often repainted these machines in the new colors to help move them.

One owner F-40s or MH50s painted and badged as MF50s are not uncommon.

It was economics...

The obvious difference is the hood, MF 50 has a hood that appears similar to that on every MF 50,65,85,90 has. The MH50 has a dimple running the length of the hood on both sides. There are also other less noticable differences but that is the most easily observed. Dale

If you check your serial number vs. the production dates, any thing before 1957 is a MH-50 and 1958 and later is a MF-50.

Note, this is a name change only. Otherwise they are the same tractor.
