OT electric trailer winch

I have a 12000 pound winch on my 30ft trailer. The last couple times i've used it ,it pulls very slow and won't hold if i let go of the switch, the tractor will go back down the ramp.I tried to load a JD 4020 today and i could eventually get it up the ramp, but when i let up on the button it would go backwards off the trailer. Is a 12000 pound to small or is there a problem?

A worm drive winch like Ramsey makes would work better there, a worm can't be powered backwards like your planetary winch is doing. Nothing sounds wrong there with 12,000 lbs, just no brake and the tractor is pulling it back. Paul

WOW that's a big winch I use a 3000 lb to load a full size ford pickup on my trailer. A snatch block to double the pull and you could pick it straight up. A 12000 lb winch would pick up a 12000 lb truck or tractor right off the ground.
Anyway you need to check the brake system to see why its not working.
