Half Tracks

I am interested in any information and discussion about Tractor half tracks and how well they performed on diffirent tractor makes.Pro's & Con's of their use ,popularity and are they still being produced today? if so,by which companies?
How popular are half tracks in tractor restoration for show and for use otherwise?
Finally,What value do they hold in todays tractor restoration market?

tracks were popular and sucessful on the Ford and Ferguson, Despite lack of Power.
A ford 800 with tracks is awesome.

Would love to run into a set. I am an AC fan and have a WD. I have seen pictures in books and maybe magazines of them on WDs and maybe a B. Don't know much about them though.

I did have some experience with half tracks on the farm that I grew up on as a boy.We had half tracks on a 1954 Massey Ferguson 35.They worked well on snow riding up and over the snow very well as I remember.
The negatives I remember: the wheels would slip inside the track especially when the snow was wet and heavy. They were also a bit treacherous on ice. If the ice slopped off the tractor would slide or skate side ways on the track uncontrollably.
However, they worked well on frigid snow and likely were designed mainly for those conditions.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone out there with any other experiences to help me relive my youth here. Also, any pointers with the installation that I need to know etc and whether these half tracks are of any significant value is a question also on my mind.
I do believe they are very interesting and nice as additional equipment to my now antique tractor as a show piece. All comments will be viewed with interest and appreciation,Thanks Ron

One other thing just crossed my mind.I also would be interested in viewing any pictures anyone may have of tractors in operation with half tracks.

There were two Fergies at the Power of the Past tractor days in Ottawa Kansas this past Sept.. It looked like rubber steal combination for the tracks and a straight axel assembly with car tires attached under the bell housing to stretch the tracks over. Would have worked good on dads WD for disking plowed ground years back. The back side of my overalls wouldnt have been so shiney at days end.

Look up Sir Edmund nnalert's North pole expedition. He used modified Fergusons with half tracks. Also look in the archives on here. Someone posted an old video of a Ford tractor with either half tracks or full tracks. Dave

I have a set listed on Ebay currently. They are very handy and work much better than expected...plus at the shows nobody has them.

I mentioned half tracks while talking with a old farmer. He said ,you wont like them.I have heard of a fellow who was spreading manure with half tracks. He leaned over, the track grabbed his coat and put him under the track and rear tire.I lost interest.
