Disgusting restrooms!

Have any of you noticed that a lot places don't seem to bother with cleaning or even checking the condition of their washrooms? I've been in some nice restaurants but the washrooms are just disgusting. Same thing with some service stations. What gives? Dave

Job descriptions, lawyers, and lawsuits??????? You can take advantage too by getting sick and getting a lawyer to sue because you got it from an unsanitary restroom

If they don't bother to clean the restrooms does it ever occur to you to consider the state of the kitchen.it's a no go area so you would not know.. happy eating.

minimum wage young workers with no work ethic, job skills. or pride in their jobs, they do as little as they possibly can for their check, its the same here too espcially convenience stores

I worked a couple weeks at a gasstation/convenience store type place that shared the building with a Popeyes Chicken place. We shared the same breakroom/restroom. Never saw a popeyes employee go into the restroom and stay long enough to wash their hands afterwards. Even removed papertowels to prove the point to inspectors. Same ones digging bare hands in ice to fill the ice bins for drinks.
Started developing a taste for home cooked chicken only.....

135,

I agree whole-heartedly. Businesses need to pay more attention to their facilities.

I'm also reminded of something that occured many years ago. Lester Maddox was the governor of Georgia. Some folks were complaining to him about the conditions in Georgia's prisons. Gov. Maddox replied that things probably wouldn't get much better until they got a better class of criminals in the prisons.

What's wrong with the customers? Why do they pee on the floor? Why don't they flush? Why do they throw used paper towels onto the floor? Why don't they wipe off the area around the sink when they're done using it?

Maybe businesses just need a better class of customers.

Tom, I'm with you! It appears that men must now teach their sons to not touch a toilet seat. Seats are much more regularly peed on than they were say ten years ago, even when there are urinals in the restroom. Many times I have seen young men walk past a row of vacant urinals and go into a stall. And yes it is apparent at a glance, walking by, that they are not sitting.

Someone mentioned kitchens-I have spent many hours in restaurant kitchens doing drywall patches. I think I will only say GROSS!

Dave, I've never been able to even come close to understanding why people are such slobs, often times same ones keep their house meticulously clean, maybe it's a relief to just be a slob when out, I "dunno" !

Personally, I have always kept cleaning supplies within reach in my bathrooms at home, cleaning is daily, it takes a minute, but public restrooms see a lot of traffic, and those who use these facilities don't care, because even if you did clean up, the next guy will mess it up. The only ones that seem to stay clean are those with attendants, which is sad, who in the heck wants that job, used to see it in many night clubs etc. whereas they were kept meticulous, because a person was in there.

Even at our farm, I make sure to keep the public restroom clean, and people know to leave it the way they find it, nothing in there is going to get you when cleaning, just wash your hands thoroughly, that's another pet peeve, one thing I believe will keep you from catching colds and other more common illnesses, thing is this will never change, people will always be slobs. Even the nastiest bathroom don't scare me, wheres the cleaning supplies, someone has to do it gol dern it LOL !!

A local Chinese buffet resturant is the worst
that i"ve ever seen--it makes me wonder what the
kitchen is like..if there are any stray poodles
in the neighborhood, they better run fast.

here's a neat trick for using a public toilet, take a full newspaper sheet, fold it length wise at its fold, fold it again width wise. at the corner where the two folds meet tear out a small section in a circular fashion. then open up the newspaper and there will be a circular hole in the center of the full sheet. you can then place the paper over the entire toilet seat area and have a clean place to use. works great when i am forced to use a public restroom. works especially well for children since nearly all of the surface area is covered with clean newspaper.

Dave ---- If the Restaurant Washrooms are dirty and disgusting, then you can bet,, the Kitchen's are the Same... Leave Immediately..

I would like to point out Lowes in Rogers AR has the cleanest best furnished bathrooms, they always have toilet seat liners, or whatever they are called, and always have soap.
I live in LA none of ours match.

Try some truck stop restrooms. Many times I have been forced to take nature calls IN NATURE. MUCH cleaner than subjecting yourself to a biohazard den of filth. You just cannot avoid some contact in those cramped stalls. Why not just go for a swim in the sewer?

I've left restaurants, without ordering, because the restroom is filthy.

Also, I agree with the other posters about hand washing. It's obvious to the most casual observer that many men walk out of the stall, or away from the urinal and right out the door without washing their hands. I can't hardly stand to touch a restroom doorknob without using a paper towel or my hanky, if there's no towels. And these same filthy hands go right out the front door of the building. I think I'm developing a phobia. . .

And what about those air dryers?? What a joke.

About the towels in the floor - when I carry a towel with me to open the door, I want to be able to find a trash can that I can pitch the towel in from the door. The little pile of towels at the door will usually encourage the management to place a trash can convenient to the door.

I have - I've developed a phobia.

It's funny how I can get cow sh?t all over me and not be bothered.

Paul

Welllllllllll, if you have the combination where the USERS dont care nor the young pimpled minimum wage assistant manager trainee doesnt care WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT grrrrrrrrrrrr

Thats one reason we travel in an RV is so our food and restroom facilities and our bed are our own. When forced to use such facilities I use my foot to flip a seat or flush and wash hands then leave and use hand sanitizer.

John T RV kinda guy

Guess I"m lucky ...never had the money to go out to eat when I was working and now that I"m retired the wife and I have enough to cook at home and that"s it...untill the government finds out we"re getting by then that"ll go too!! Charles

Pete black, that is a great idea with the newspaper. Those toilet seat liners if provided don't seem to stay in place very good. Sometimes a person just has to sit down on those darn seats.
The Kwik Trip gas stations in our area have pretty good rest rooms. They have a number posted to call if it is not clean.
I always try to leave with the place in the same or better shape than when I went in there.

Well............if it hasn't been on the ground, then it ain't dirty.

Our local chinese restruant was shut down a few years ago.

They were scraping the leftovers from people's plates back into the buffet server.

In defense of the business owners, you simply can't monitor your rest rooms constantly...and there are a lot of customers who are slobs. Having said that, I've seen convenience stores that have little checksheets that say their restrooms are checked/cleaned every hour, and I have to call "bull$hit!" Apparently a lot of c-store employees find it easier to check and initial the checksheet than to actually clean the rest room, refill the TP/towel/soap dispensers, and wipe off the sink/wall/counter.

The local KFC restaurant, which has since torn down the olf building and rebuilt, used to have one rest room with no working hot water. When health inspectors would inspect the place and write them up for "no hot water in ladies rest room," they'd just change the MENS and LADIES signs, and when the inspector returned to see that ciolations had been "corrected," they'd find working hot water in the ladies rest room...the "problem" had been "corrected" in the eyes of the inspector, and business would continue as usual, until the next inspection would discover "no hot water in mens rest room."

If they paid a living wage then you would have a college educated young pimpled assistant manager trainee who doesn't care.

why not have restroom doors that open in , and push open when finished ,, The way that codes are now everyone must touch the exact same place after using restroom facilities in order to get out of the restroom , it does not matter how clean your hands are , WHEN you reach for the door handle , YOU ARE CONTAMINATED BY ANYONE WHO TOUCHED THE SAME HANDLE WHO DID NOT WASH ........

My BIL was stationed in Korea. He said scrapping off leftovers backinto food bins in restruants is common place in Asian countries. I guess not too many years ago they barely had a cup of rice per week to eat so they are careful not to waste food.

When we were traveling we stopped at a convenience store/mom-pop-restaurant. I told the wife that the restaurant food smelled pretty good and we might get something after we used the restroom. When i was in the mens there was some guy in there, I finished my business and was washing my hands and this guy finished his business/without washing and headed out the door with me behind him. I followed and he went strait behind the counter of the restaurant, I kept going right out the door.

1st thing i do when traveling and eating out is check out the rest room. if its disgusting i dont stay. problem is as someone below said, people are disgusting. you could clean it and 2 seconds later some slob is in there. it happened so much at the farm stand we closed the public restroom and got port-a-johns. The guy comes and cleans them and we use our employee only bathroom.

When I worked in shops, they all had the same motto. No one is over qualified to clean up or push a broom. What's wrong with the owner of the business cleaning the washrooms or making it a priority? Maybe some of these businesses need to be shut down until they realize it's a serious health risk, especially now with the H1N1. I've been in washrooms where a dad takes his kid in and tells him not to touch anything or even flush. If people are that worried, they can take some paper or a kleenex to flush the toilet. Not everyone can afford to go everywhere in an RV. It would also be nice if all places would fix the latches on the doors. Dave

Some people just don't like to use urinals but if they use a toilet they could lift the seat and at least flush. Dave

usetabesteve, Are you talking about those paper liners that you put down? It seems like when you get it set down in place then just as you turn around, the automatic toilet will flush taking that with it.)

In business, you invest in what brings you the greatest return on your money. That's called C-A-P-I-T-A-L-I-S-M. If rest rooms were a major profit center for gas stations and restaurants, you can bet your bottom dollar they'd all glisten...plus, the soap would actually be capable of forming a bubble, the toilet paper would not give you paper cuts, and the towel dispensers would be constantly full in order to keep you coming back.

But in restaurants and gas stations, rest rooms are only there because some folks insist on being able to wash their hands before eating, or after handling a gasoline nozzle. If there wasn't a demand, they wouldn't be there. Even While Castle discovered it was no longer profitable to charge folks for using the rest room. So whatever a restaurant or a gas station spends on its rest rooms is a dead loss. ONLY if it makes you decide not to return does a rest room actually have a positive effect on the business' bottom line, and UNTIL you return, that "positive effect" is only a POTENTIAL positive effect.

So a clean rest room is the restaurant and gas station version of the grocery store's "loss leader" if it gets you in the door. But I haven't lately seen a restaurant OR a gas station touting its "sparkling clean rest rooms" as a selling point for their products and services.

Heck, I cant afford to travel and pay $75 per night for a Motel plus three restaurant meals per day. Even at todays gas prices (RV versus auto) we can stay in the RV each night and cook 3 great meals (same cost as at home) for less then auto travel and motels and restaurants. In addition when we visit our kids (Memphis and Dallas and Washington DC) we dont put them out so bad or wear out or welcome as fast lol if all we need is an extension cord maybe if its real hot... AND WE DONT HAVE TO RELY ON NASTY RESTROOMS OR FILTHY KITCHENS wooooooooo hooooooooo

PS My RV is NOT expensive either, a 95 model all paid for of course NOTTTTTTTT one of the luxurious $250,000 palaces you see rollin down the highways

To each their own, its just the way we prefer to travel for the freedom and economy it provides but its NOT for everyone........

God Bless yall n keep safe now

Ol John T an RV kinda guy, been doin it nearly 40 years n loveeeeeeeeeee it

I would not call some of these slobs a pig, because that would be an insult to the four legged pig, which is actually far cleaner..

And from what I have seen, and heard from some gals that I have chatted with,,, the gal slobs are even worse...

Its the management. I work at the local tractor supply and we clean ours every day at closing. We occasionally find some nasty stuff in them, like last weekend I was closing and I found, in the mens, somebody(not going to name the assumed race but if you have been to their country, you might recognize this)had tossed used toilet paper on the ground next to the let hand side of the toilet. Just disgusting!!!! I hit the entire restroom with bleach then cleaned it. Its just the management. Nothing more, nothing less.

"If there wasn't a demand, they wouldn't be there"
Tell your evil socialist gov that you're not going to put a restroom in your business, see how far that gets you.
Not two weeks ago there was a news story about a business with the best bathrooms in the states, said their business increased greatly with people even coming just to see the restrooms.

Would you believe that I witnessed a doctor in a Fargo, ND hospital restroom do the same thing!! He sarcastically turned the water on, put two fingers in the stream of tap water, knocked the flacet shut, tapped his two fingers on the edge of the sink and walked out.. This was a staff doctor.. Lowlife in all forms..

So are you still watching the government-controlled media? Or did you get that from "fairly unbalanced" FOX News?

An old poem comes to mind when you mention pay toilets:

Here I sit, all broken hearted,
paid a nickel to s***, but only f*****.
