number 1 cylinder location

The WD I have, had an international distributor housing IH points, condender, rotor, distributor cap on it when I bought it and runs fine. The wire from the number 1 hole on the disbributor cap goes to the cylinder nearest the gas tank, the firing order is the same as is stamped on the housing except for starting at the back of the block. Could the distributor housing be 180 degrees off?

ASSUMING that it runs, the distributor/wire arrangement is "non-standard", but no matter.

As long as the distributor is in one of 4 positions and the wires are arranged accordingly, it will run correctly.

The only "problem" will be confusing the "mechanic" that thinks it has to follow factory convention to run.

You can call ANY cylinder #1 and start the firing order there, and it will run.

(It's the CAMSHAFT that determines the firing order for a given crankshaft "throw" arrangement.)

are you saying that the dist.cap has a 1 by one of the holes.somebody probably woked on it some time or another and didnt put the dist in as it should have been.its ok the way it is.if it was 180 off the engine wouldnt run
