Massey Harris 44

I have bought a Massey Harris 44. How do I find out if it is a 44,44-6,44 standard.or a44 special? serial No. GR26649. Somebody help me!

G= gas R= row crop 26640= 1951 model

I don't know about the other models, but you can tell if it's a 44-6 by counting the spark plugs, or looking at the distributor cap. A 44-6 will have 6, and the others will have 4.

The 44 Special I had had cast iron wheels. Plain 44's used pressed steel wheels, at least the ones I was familiar with. 444's had a fancy hood ornament and quick adjust rear wheels.
