D-17 extra headlights...

I am working my D-17 for snow plowing work this winter. 95% of the work will be done in the dark. I was operating the tractor a couple nights ago and see I am lacking light and thought 2 flood lights mounted on the fenders would help. This is in addition to the standard two front headlights, tail lights, and one utility light on the rear. My question is... Is there a limit to the generator to keep up with this much draw?

I doubt if the original generator will ever keep up with that many lights. Might be time to swap in an alternator, but make sure it is a heavy duty one.

Before I got my Series III, someone had put newer fenders on it, maybe from a 170, with room for four lites. I added the second pair, and it works ok, but make sure the wiring is heavy enough to run two on each side with one wire. This tractor still has the 12v gen. Check the wattage of the lites- I think mine are 35 watt... alt would be a better choice.

plenty of tractors run 5 or 6 headlights on a generator no problems. Just has to be up to snuff.
