8N starter button

When I purchased my 8N, it had already been converted to a 12 volt system. The starter button located on top of the transmission appeared to be damaged and was not connected. The tractor is started with a spring return toggle switch on the dash. I repalced the old push button only to realize that it completes the ground when depressed while the tractor requires a positve current to start. Is there a way to wire the old style switch in a 12 volt system?

Well from what you say it also has the wrong soliniod on it and that is where your problem is. If you get the correct soliniod it will work just fine and yes the 6 volt one will work just fine on 12 volts they have to other wise I would have problems with my tractors since 99% of them are 12 volts with 6 volt parts

you can actually get the correct solenoid in 6 or 12 volt and old's rite...i used my 6 volt stuff till it finally quit or i broke it changing cables...got the 12v whenever i needed something...bulbs and gauges were only thing i had probs with.

Most guys just use the original 6 Volt solenoid and it will give adequate service on 12 Volts.

Here's some part numbers:

Here's a way to connect up a 12 Volt solenoid so the starter can only be engaged if the ignition switch is "ON" AND the tranny-top neutral-safety start switch is depressed, complete with part number. If your favorite auto parts store doesn't carry Standard ignition, have them cross the number to their brand:
