6600 combine question

How many of you run a 6600 JD combine to harvest with? I have 2 and each one worked really well.
JD 404 engine is a great engine. The combine is real simple and anyone can fix it. Just wondering
if anyone has had one.

Had two. Great combines. I loved to hear that 329 Diesel cackle. Most perfectly matched engine with harvest capacity of any combine ever built in my opinion. When the engine dropped a few RPMs , the grain tank auger was running full of corn.Couldn't ask for more than that. Corn never went out the back of those machines.

Dad and i have ran them since the early 90's and they have been good machines. They were both shedded machines when we got them, but have been outside since. Keeeping them inside makes a world of difference, but all we have done to them over the years is bearings on the grain augers, patch up a few holes and some belts. Both have the 329 engines and gear drive. I agree they are powered right even with the smaller 329 in them, i think if they were hydro the 404 would be needed for the extra power.

2nd combine I ever had and was probably the best of the first couple I ran. You're right on, easy to work on and simple. Mine was a 329 and gear drive. Tried to run a 216, that gave it a work out in good beans. I bought it for $550 at a sale when nobody wanted them. The joke was when I ran it and the tank was full of beans, the beans were worth more than what I paid for the combine.
