Diesels Stink!

They're noisy too.
The fuel stinks on you all day if you so much as touch one in the morning. Stink your clothes, stink your car. They stink out the exhaust too.
My gasser I call the Musashi because it burns a similar 4 tons of fuel per hour at rated horsepower.
The diesel just sips the fuel doing the same tasks. But Lord! it stinks up your whole day.
The words vile and pernicious come to mind.
And I haven't even started on the noise the diesels make.

Sheesh!

The smell of diesel smoke makes me lonesome for my tractor! When I was growing up on the farm I spent a lot of time on a JD R which we stood up on a lot, to break the monotony, I put a piece of 4" stovepipe on top of the muffler to get the exhaust above my eyes! Maybe we could learn something from the Europeans, their diesels don't smoke or stink, not allowed, VERBODEN!

After hauling gas to my 656 chopping silage, I have come to love the smell of diesel, half the gallons consumed with more power!

That reminds me of my favorite quote from the Dodge Diesel Truck Forum: "What do you love most about my truck, the smell or the noise?"

when did they get so good in Europ i was over there and they were runing old hot bulb engines and old diesels they all stink like diesel i dont mind diesel smell.
i dont belive all the bs that they are so much better than usa

Tey're not for everyone.Hate the smell of gas engines.Much worse than diesel IMHO.

No different than the rotten egg smell of todays car exhaust or the skunk smell of LP burning engines. As far as noise I would rather listen to a diesel than a loud motorcycle.Scott

Oopps. Apologies. I thought you were paraphrasing the line from "Apocalypse Now" one of the darkest movies ever made.

Actually had a line, delivered after a napalm strike, "I love the smell of napalm in the morning."

But the smell of diesel in the morning is nice.

I switched mine to bio-diesel. It smells very different. Now I crave Chinese food when I get off the tractor.

now now... the smell of burning diesal is a good smell if you ask me. Any cummins truck or any diesal truck for that matter sounds pretty sweet and diesal tractors sound much better than gasses. idk i guess i politely disagree with you. but everyones different!

I agree 100% about diesel fuel stinking when it gets on you. I've taken to wearing nitrile milking gloves when I do filter changes. I don't mind the smoke smell for the most part though. As far as the noise, yes, they're noisier than gassers, but you are also running a 3-cyl. try a 4 cyl. or turbo 4. Or one of the 6's. Smoother, quieter.

Hey guys the reason the Euro diesels don't smell is because they have taken the sulphur out of the fuel. You can line up a dozen taxis and a bus all idelling at the airport on a cool damp morning and there is less smell than if they were gassers. Was in UK this spring and went for a day trip with friends from there in his C80 Volvo diesel. Nice car,but get this,he gets 70, yes 70 miles per Imperial gallon at highway speeds. Makes me mad that we don't get that kind of performance here. They have 2 grades of diesel at the pumps and the people claim the high grade is actually cheaper because of better mileage. Our oil companies need to get there buts in gear and take the fuel up a notch or 2. You will find about as many gas cars there as you find diesels here. The newer diesels are very nice and quite too.

GET A HORSE ! And smell horse farts all day like the old timers did. Then I bet diesel won't smell so bad.

Probably for the same reason Gasoline used to look like orange Kool-Aid and now it looks like pi$$. Additives, is what I mean to say. On the flip side, unless someone thinks oil changes are a waste of time and money, you don't see the 1" layer of muck in the bottom of the pan at 100,000 miles nor do you need a valve job at 75-80,000 either.

Actually I was paraphrasing the line from "Apocalypse Now" , but I was thinking you thought I knew the smell of napalm, when I never have. Lets just say it beats the smell of abundant victory.....

LOL
Musashi was a sister ship to the Yamato. That's what they burned at cruising speed.
My gasser isn't quite that thirsty but it does seem like I have to fuel it often.
