OT/searching the net today

Has anybody else been searching the net today looking for a nice little place to retire on a lake or in the mountains? Found a few nice little places in east Tennessee. In this depressing weather I figure it's better to go there IN my mind than to go completely OUT of it.

A few years back I did. Wife and I were considering selling our vacation home in the California desert and getting one in the Arizona desert. Found a bunch of nice looking places south of the Hopi and Navajo reservations there.

Visited one website to check for employment opportunities closer to the farm.

Both locations would be "a nice little place to retire".

Buy the time I retire, I'll have been over here longer than anywhere else. Stone house on a little Spanish Island sounds real inviting.

checkout the mountain home arkansas area, real pretty county, dang hilly tho, right on lake northfork, about 530 miles of shoreline. i bought some property there couple years ago, thinking on wintering down there when i retire for the second time!!!

Retired, sold out, moved south to not too ffar from the Rio Grande. We have been here 7 years now.(Las Cruces)NM. Dont have to shovel no snow.cut firewood or get up on a cold winters night to check cows.

Ya'll have a safe Halloween and be careful.

Yea,been there plenty of times. A neighbor who's place we bought, moved there. Went there to visit him and his wife several times. They wanted us to move down there in the worst kind of way. She passed away recently though and he moved back up here to Michigan. Liked it down there alot, but everytime we went it was getting more and more built up. We've fallen in love with east Tennessee lately. I like eastern Kentucky myself, but the wife's family is there and she says she doesn't want to be that close to them.

i'm over by henderson, east of mountain home off 62. i'm about a block from the lake. if ya go there again, east of mountain home on 62, on the west end of voila arkansas, south side of the road is a farmall cub parked by a house, been there for years, never moved. one of these days i gotta stop and see if they'd sell it. freds catfish house is good eating, and the blue pig bar-b q, then theres gastons resort over on the white river by bull shoals, good food there too!!!!

We always liked the Brangus Steakhouse right in town. They took us over to Gastons one time too. They had a real nice place right on the lake up by Gamaliel, but built a new place between the High School and the Armory after Sally found a coral snake in her sewing basket.

Were pretty much retired, the first wife retired but now works part time whenever she wants since shes an RN. We opted for the RV retirement lifestyle (is also very affodrable) since it gives us the freedom to go where n when we want in the winter, 2 yrs ago in deep South Texas along the Rio Grande, last year n this in mid Florida, next year maybe the southwest, but thats the advanatge of RV retirement, our home is wherever we park, especially visiting the kids spread all over the country..

Good luck

My inlaws used to live in Lake Lure NC. Absolutely beautiful area of Western NC near Ashville. The lived in a private access community that had timeshares or lots you could build on. Some were million dollar houses, other further up the mountain were in the mid hundreds. If you've ever seen "Last of the Mohicans", a lot of the movie is shot right next to Lake Lure. They moved up to Cincy a few years ago to be closer to family, but I sure miss visiting them there.

Guysl If you will get right with it I let go of 187 acres of Central Texas land, 50/60acres cultivated rest in Pasture, major highway frontage, It is a thought

I havent been looking,............yet, but a nice little cabin in Canada. Oh, I dont know, maybe 3 feet of snow, cold, with no tv or noise. I would need alot of fire wood, and a good wood stove,,and oh ya, a good cook book.
After a while I would miss home, but its nice to stop, close your eyes and dream for a little while. Ok now its back to the mud and rain, thanks for the thought. J

John T, what area in mid Florida do you stay? We stay in the Lakeland area but hope to camp for a week in the middle of January at the Florida Flywheelers site near Fort Meade.

I have to tell you that I think if you can find a place on E. Tenn. in the tri-cities area you will have fullfilled my dream. If I hadn't been raised in the Ozarks I'd be there today.
I think that is truly Gods country. Good luck and I hope you can make it happen.......

"The Dukes of Hazzard" was filmed on the Disney Ranch in California. Do you remember them driving past or through a covered bridge that had exposed trusses? That same bridge showed up in the series "The Fall Guy". Lee Majors was a stunt man who was also a bounty hunter.

I thought it was first filmed in Tenn, then moved to California? Not to sound corny, but some of the back ground shots were really pretty! yehaaaaa

Eric,
You are close. The first episodes were filmed in Covington and Conyers Georgia. I believe the first 5. Then the rest in California.

You can see the difference in the scenery from the first few to the later ones.

I guess I have to admit being a Dukes junkie. Every Friday night at 8pm, I was in front of the TV. Every kid my age was. I ended up getting all the seasons on DVD.

Comeon up here an gitcher a logcabin and eat brook trout and moose steaks the rest of days.(Ya only got till Nov 2012 ya know) Hoss

Just stay where you are "rr", the way things are going in Michigan pretty soon we'll have the place to ourselves.
Paul

Roger on that. In the last 2 weeks, we know of 4 familes that are leaving Michigan. 1 to SC, and 3 to Florida. The state is emptying out after 10 years of job losses. Our county lost about 700 students this year, and a 1000 last year. This next year might be worse. I don't see an end in the next few years.

Went through Hazard County, Kentucky some years back- its mountainous, nothing at all like the Dukes country. Inquired at local ice creamery, lady said the name was the only thing connecting the series to the county. She thought it was mostly filmed in Georgia.
