06 Dodge 5.9 Cummins issue

I have an 06 Dodge 5.9 cummins. Sunday I was driving it and the check engine light came on. Almost immediately it started running rough and it lost almost all power. It acts to me like it is not getting enough fuel to run properly. Does anybody have a clue what might be wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Dan

Run the codes, run the codes. Don't disconnect that battery until you get the latest code.

Probably something along the fuel rail, primary pump.

Ford Powerstroke diesels have a fairly regular problem with cam position sensor, with symptoms like you describe. My mechanic claims he can change them blindfolded now. Don't know if Dodges have the same problem.

96 dodge not that electronic engine it still has real injection pump try fuel filter then go to your lift pump then i believe there is a pump and screen in your fuel tank if all else fails try to put fuel in it ha ha

So,what code(s) came up? You did get the codes checked, right? Waste of everyone"s time until you do.

Like other's have said, don't guess, run the codes. Had the same problem with my '98. After guessing, and replacing the transfer/lift pump, filter, etc., took it to a Dodge shop, where they RAN THE CODES, and found the engine speed sensor was bad. Much wasted time and money. Get it to a shop where they can diagnose the problem accurately, those code readers really do work.

My 04 did the same thing and I took it to the shop. They had to replace the fuel injectors as well as a new fuel injector wiring harness. Lucky for me it was still under warranty, the cost would have been about 7000.00 dollars.

Run the codes by turning on the ignition switch three times. Leaving it on the third time. Codes will show in the mileage display. Then look on line for codes. Gas are under OBD II, Diesel?

I haven't had the opportunity to use this resource...... On some of the other forums I read, others have taken their vehicles to the local Auotzone or other auto parts places to have the codes taken for free. If your truck runs at all, this may be a possibility. If your truck does not run.....do you have free towing???? as.....to a shop?

i would guess a cracked injector, alot of the 24v cummins have a problem with that, how does it start cold? rough or like usuall, with a cracked injector you wont build enough pressure and it would start rough

I've worked on them all and I have to say that a Chevy is the best! I have a Dodge now and don't like it. I won't buy a Ford at all!
So my answer to what you problem is - you bought a Dodge! Get use to paying way too much to repair it! Big money!

I ran the codes and this is what I came up with.
P0203
P2146
P2149
I talked with the local dealer and it sounds like it is covered under Cummins 100,000 mile warranty. Am having it towed in this morning.
Thanks to all for the advice.
BTW, I rented an OBDII reader from Autozone. It cost me $150 and they refund it all when you return it in working order.
