3020 powershift. Ive owned this tractor for 10 years. Never replace ALL Hyd fluid. Dealer says not to bother unless problem. Manuel says every 1200 hour fluid change. I had to rebuild cylinder on my mow/cond. Noticed the hyd fluid was dark. Decided might be good idea to empty and refil. Boy was it nasty. Dont know why. I change filters regular. I decided also to blow out all the cylinders I use so as not to bring that fluid into the tractor when used. Am i paranoid or ? Fluid aint cheep either.

I'd say you did ok on changing it. I used to change mine every year, thats probably a bit excesssive for 200 hours per machine plus or minus. I've gone now to changing the filters annually and doing a whole system change once every 5 years. That gets me changing 2 machines a year, and with leak and loss it works out to about a barrel of fluid a year.

If the oil has changed color or has water in it then its most likely time to change it. If however it still looks good and has the right viscosity then there is no need to change it. Hydraulic oil only gets bad when it has been contaminated with something.
We had a small truck crane at work that had water in the oil we used it for years like that. Once i changed the oil and it was still white with water but not thick so we couldn't run it so it stayed that way unltil long after I left. Of course this is not the right way to do it but if it doesn't hurt anything then why bother.
