update on my tractor

Wasn't as bad as it seemed. One of the rod bearings siezed. Procrastination on my part was the big issue. Been going to flush the system with diesel fuel (last oil change was a little crudier than I thought it should have been). Pickup screen and tubes looked like these cholesterol scare pics (only black). No damage to rod or shaft and he measured main bearings, checked out cylinders, rings are tight w/ no signs of wear. Everything looked good except that one rod bearing that didn't get oil. He's replacing all 3 sets (you buy stuff mostly individually for some reason) and says everything will be fine and finished by Tuesday. Difference of about 1500 bucks in parts.

Nice start to the day.

(quoted from post at 02:35:00 10/24/09) Boy, you are lucky!!! You must live right. Glad it will be a cheaper fix. Chris

Try to. Less than 200 bucks in parts and labor will be Budweiser and T-bone steaks. Can't figure how someone that can get the best beer in the world would ask for Budweiser and I'd rather eat a hamburger than a T-bone, but to each their own..... Gotta get with his dad and see what he wants/needs. He said he had to take stuff to work to clean it, so maybe he needs a partswasher.

I think it is a little wierd that he would ask for Budweiser. I would be slurpen that German stuff down. Closest thing around here is Stag (or so I am told) and I think that beats the heck out of any AB beer.

Make sure all oil galleys in the block and crank are cleared, cleaned and properly sealed. Sounds like there was a blockage or lack of pressure.

Glad to hear that! Have you been running high detergent oil? I wonder how many old tractors out there that could take a road trip like yours did and not be harmed. I would keep an eye on the oil and change interval closely, another rod may decide to surprise you. Am guessing there are undersize rod bearings available for that engine?

Should I be running anything other than HD? He's replacing all rod bearings (3 sets) and cleaning/flushing everything out. I asked him about the correct bearing size and got a kind look (kind a pro gives a flunky when they ask a dumb question) so I guess he's got it under control  .
Yes, you can get oversize. Can't wait to get it back.

Just stopped by to ask him to remove a broken bolt that I couldn't get to while everything was in one piece. Was almost too late, he's got it all back together except the oil filter, radiator, and oil pan that he is taking to work to wash (boil?) out.

Man your making me feel bad. Our MF135 is still sitting out with diesel in the tranny for almost a month. I was using diesel to clean out the water in the tranny when i got a hydraulic leak (in which i have to resplit the tractor) and its almost ready to split but it has been sitting ever since.
