Wife left me.......

for a few days anyway. That woman sees more of the States than I have. She'll be running around TX sucking up some good food and bringing back what I hope is our last horse.
Her loop, starting tomorrow, will be from Houston>Corpus Christi>San Antonio>Midland>Amarillo>Wichata Falls>DFW>Houston. Think she can expect decent weather? It's perfect mailman weather here (rain, sleet, and snow). I'll take advantage of the absence of her planning expertise and pick up my baler, build a dog kennel, and prolly a roof over the area that the baler purchase made me decide would be an equipment corner. Keeps me busy and out of trouble

been pretty wet for a change here in Wichita Falls temps in 60"s-70"s, saw the sun yesterday for the first time in a week.

Did she take a long shopping list? My wife goes to the states for a couple weeks twice a year and returns with two suit cases at weight limit each time. At least she always brings me some Wisconsin sharp Cheddar.

What does the word Prolly mean? I have seen it recently on quite a few posts. I looked it up in the dictionary and Dictionary.com and there were no results.

Help!

I use it as slang / short for probably..
Kinda like " What r yins doin tnite?" ....
" Ow know? " ..( I dont know)
"Prolly gwin town" ( Probably go in town).....

Weather is going to be nice here in North Texas during her trip.

What are the "logistics" for getting a horse from Texas to Germany?

Did not get a chance to post on your baler, but from what I read it sounds like a good one.

Be sure to post some photos for us.

Actually picking up 2, one for us and one for her friend. TX is the quarantine station (4 weeks), ours came from KS and the other one from Iowa. After the QT they get loaded on a plain in Houston and flown to either Luxemburg or Amsterdam (in our case), our car and trailer is there to drive them home.
Be picking up the baler on Monday if the weather does as promised. Nice 60-80 mile ( RT depending on what roads I can take) tractor ride .

A couple more questions on the "logistics".

Who, what, and where is the Texas quarantine station?

What commercial carrier name and type of plane "ferry" the horses overseas?

Jimmy,,, I'm sure any Quarantine is done by large or small animal Veterinarians, that's just common sense.

Any Large animal Veterinary Service has the scoop on International Pet Transport Service,
or just google Pet Transport, there are tons of Air Service Stations that do Pet Transport.

For International Horses, I would bet it cost as much as the horse is worth.
some people have money to burn...
kind of like winning the Lottery...

Private veterinarians do not quarantine livestock to be transported overseas - that's just common sense. Private veterinarians are not familiar with international animal health regulations and do not have the facilities or staff necessary to do the required quarantine. Quarantine for livestock to be transported overseas is done by the USDA and only by the USDA.

Don't scare Me like that Dave ...probably the most tramatic time of my life , when my crazy ex-wife pulled that stunt with my kids .....

Sale barns in Iowa are finding horses left by owners in the back pins after the sales to just get rid of them. Closed the horse meat plant in DeKalb, IL. Sorry state of afairs all around.

I was married 18 times...or was it 19? I forget, but don't matter cause I left them all after my honeymoon anyway, except one and that's cause she didn't showup for the wedding at all, but since I paid for the whole thing, we just acted like she was there and one of the women out in the church filled or stood in for her, but that doesn't really make us married I don't think. Not sure about that. When the reverend said, "I now pronounce you man and wife", her husband jumped up and shouted, "She's all yours man" and hightailed it out of the church. So, that's why I'm not sure if I was married 18 times, or 19. Don't matter though, she left me after the honeymoon and went back to her other five husbands, I think. I quit drinking after all of that, well that and the sheriff kept coming over and telling me to climb down from the barn and put some clothes on everytime I drank. The last time that happened the judge figured it'd be best that I quit drinkin and gettin married and being driven to drinkin. I haven't been married since, and don't drink no more either, except when I'm down in Texas playing 9-ball and stuff.

Good for her/Now she finally got the drift of just how terrible you truly are lol. If I could contact her I would suggest she is much better off away from you and your horrid remarks to me.
It was just a matter of time until she figured you out. You"ll have to get on bended knee and beg her to come back ,after you make a promise to quit your verbal abuse to poor old LOU. lol.

Too bad about the slaughter plant closures. Some folks are turning their horses loose in Stephens Forest in southern Iowa-not likely to make it. In Germany, I think they still eat horse. Makes authentic sauerbraten, but a little would go a long way for this Irishman.

Thanks Old Roy,,, I can learn something new every day,,, it sure must be different in each state, they do quarantine here in a special barn and have the USDA come to check...

Thanks for your input.... zeke

My wife left with my best fishing buddy, and........................well.....................I'm gonna miss him come fishing season.

Dave your post on shipping Horses reminded me my son's experenc with shipping show pigeon to a breeder in France. It was a rare colored bird that was being purchased to intoduce this colored bird in France, At the time the bird had to be tested, inspected given health papers from a Federal VET and be in France in twenty-four hours. Everything had to be timed perfect. He visited France as a intern student six years later and saw the old bird and many of his off spring.

(quoted from post at 18:17:13 10/16/09) dave do you plan to return states after you retire?

Never know.
Our place here will be paid off in a few years, wife'll have a good retirement and better health coverage that'll cover us both much better than ....well,you know......
Wait and see if I live that long and go from there.

JD Puller:
Yes, they make horses over here..... When the whole country's rabbit hounds go back to uncle Bubba and Marcel's porch dogs, there's not much future. Gotta get some outside stuff. Think we are pretty much rounded out now though unless we decide to take our stallion out of the gene pool, but he's got a lot of years left.

Gitrib:
Our ancestors thought it'd be neat to introduce a little color once and you see what it got us
Pigeon folks never cease to amaze me.Just about all the old farmers in my town keep a few. Don't know if it's true, but was told that some sell for as much as $15-20k for carrier pigeons.

Every State should have at least one well monitored slaughter house. It would be a lot more respectful way to go for broken or unwanted horses. And would clear up the market for good animals also.

James:
I'll not go into any details on the net until everyone is safe at home. Never know what kind of freaks read this stuff.
No, I'm not pointing at little joey....

That Lou guy:

Better be a little nicer mister.else I'll come key that damned ole tractor

My wife is in Houston too. I guess there is a big quilt show there right now. She also has a brother and a cousin in Houston.

She likes to go lots more than I do. I guess I would rather stay home and mess with my junk. She talks me into going places sometimes, but not nearly as much as she does. Gotta keep them happy!
