Waste Oil Furnace

Anyone know much about waste oil furnaces?? My problem is when I start it up in the morining when its cold, i have to turn up the oil pressure a bit to heep it running, then once the area warms up the oil pressure is too much and is wasting oil. Never had this problem until last couple of years. Every fall I clean it and I've read the book on it but it doesnt have anything to help me on this.
 
does it have an oil preheater? It sounds like the oil is simply getting thinner as it warms up. Thereby taking less pressure to force it through the system.
 
they went out of business Yes it has a preheater. thats where i think the problem is. The preheater light comes on when needed to keep oil at temp. Thinkin maybe the thermostat that tells the preheater to turn on is bad? Not sure, just wanted to get input from others. Dont want to replace parts unless I know whats bad. The nearest dealer to service waste oil furnaces is more than 2 1/2 hours away. Big $$$ just to pull in driveway, already called em, wont help me over the phone, even though I've bought parts from him in the past.
 
Can you turn the stove "on" and let the heaters warm up before the stove tries to fire?

They don't like to be turned off and get cold. The best thing may be to leave it run all the time and at most just lower the temp. when you are not there.

Most have instructions such as the min. temp. for your oil tank and require the tank to be in the warm shop and not sitting outside in the cold with a line to the shop.

Waste oil furnaces can work well, but they are high maint. and we have had them for 20+ years.
 
Did you turn off the power to the pre heater this summer? The oil will cook inside of the heater and you have to take it apart to clean it and after that the heater should stay on till spring.My experience is with a Reznor brand.
